Panda Free Antivirus v18.07.03 (April 28, 2019) http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/panda_cloud_antivirus.html https://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Panda-Cloud-Antivirus.shtml
@mood -- thanks for the links. The listing for Panda free at MajorGeeks notes that Panda bugs you with ads & "news". However, Panda's settings allow you to disable those annoyances.
Bitdefender does too (but you need an account), Avast can have silent mode enabled. Settings are somewhat hidden and that option is buried at the bottom.
Oh right. Well, that's something. I don't run any AV now but Panda was the last one that I did. All in all, when I ran Windows used six AV's (Bullguard, Norton, McAfee, Avast!, MSE and Panda). Panda was the last. I actually installed Panda Cloud when it was first released but initially it gave too many false positives.
Panda Free Antivirus v18.07.04 (June 5, 2019) http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/panda_cloud_antivirus.html https://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Panda-Cloud-Antivirus.shtml
I wonder what changes they made -- hopefully they beefed up their behavior blocker. Or... do they even have one, I wonder?
They do have a behaviour blocker, but it doesn't work well. Since this is just an update from 18.07.03 to 18.07.04, there will only be very minor changes. As usually, more than likely the new version will need to be manually installed and there will be no changelog. For the record, I like Panda, but I don't like that for the most part it can't upgrade to new versions on its own.
I, too, like Panda -- a lot. Their cloud works really well & they have good sigs. If they would licence OSArmor from NoVirusThanks (NVT), & integrate it into their AV, they would have a very powerful BB. Doing that would make them a TOP tier AV. Better yet, they should make a contract with NVT's guru, for him to manage Panda's BB segment. If they did that, then "Katie, bar the door!"
@bellgamin My understanding is that Panda does very well at detecting threats that are at least a few days old, but does poorly at detecting new threats. This is why it does very well in tests by AV testing organisations, as they don't test 0 day threats, but it's reputation is not so good, here and at MalwareTips. While having a better blocker would be a good start to improving Panda, I'm not sure how committed they are to improving it. For example, in the past, I've found that their customer support was terrible But my understanding is that it may have improved a bit recently, as I have seen posts at MalwareTips where people say that Panda have actually responded to support enquiries.
I've never ever seen Panda behaviour blocker in action, maybe it works as good as Panda automatic upgrade?!
No, the auto upgrade works much better. I've actually seen it upgrade to a new version, once or twice. But like you, I've never seen the behaviour blocker.
It should update every time there's a new update. Little fixes may not be quite as important as big fixes, but they still exist to fix things.
I've used the paid version of Panda Dome Advanced, and while of course it makes regular definition updates it did not update to new versions of the software. I contacted their support directly to inquire about my experience, and they said that to get newer versions would require uninstalling the existing version and then doing a new installation. I find this unacceptable for security software, especially for a paid version which should automatically provide subscribers with the latest version.
That is just horrid man especially at this day and age where all AVs have auto updates to the program itself.
To make it even worse the program doesn't even alert you when a new version of the software is available, you're left on your own to periodically check their site for newer releases!
