Well, off it goes then sadly. It appears as you said it's constantly scanning files, even when simply opening folders, instead of scanning only when executing the files inside.

WD is very slow at scanning folders full of exe files etc.
It is very light at system startup, though.

It depends on the system. Once a year or two ago, Windows Defender, which I don't usually use, became active and the startup time was much longer. I'm not sure if I had disabled or uninstalled the antivirus I normally use. But once Windows Defender was running, my system was a lot slower.

This was a system which has a lot of apps installed and quite a few apps and services loading at startup. If I had less things running on my system, I'm sure that it wouldn't have impacted the startup time much.

Any security solutions impact startup time, there is no way around.

So exclude the folder in question. You know whether they are safe or not.

Sorry for the slow reply, glad I could help:thumb:

That's pretty cool! I do have to admit that this was a big flaw with WD and Windows security in general. Hopefully this will fully address this issue.

I have Windows 10 Enterprise and in the Group Policy Editor, there is an option to disable Windows Defender Application Guard. Would that be a good thing to do since I also disable Windows Defender and install Avast Pro Antivirus?

Still using WD here............ been doing so for a few months now
I have seen no real slowdowns, though I don't have a lot of stuff on board here
Do notice HD activity seems more frequent when not using the computer
Used to have Avast free customs parts installed

A fresh transparency report has just been released - the Examining industry test results, May 2019 report.

Can be downloaded here (PDF) :
    Code:
    https://query.prod.cms.rt.microsoft.com/cms/api/am/binary/RE33cdd
The report has now been expanded to cover tests from :
    • AV-TEST.
    • SE Labs.
    • AV-Comparatives.
Details on what's behind the numbers in the tests and on the improvements made after Microsoft analyzed each test.

This is one very informative report.
Starting from 2.2.1 it's highly recommended to read and understand,
especially for those that repeatedly complain about FP's.

    Hi @shmu26,

Lots of improvements listed in the links also benefit consumers.
And everything in the transparency report benefits everybody, both consumer and enterprise.

Just drill down, follow links and everything will be crystal clear.
And remember WDATP has for over a year been a product AND a umbrella term used to describe the entire protection stack on Windows 10.

    :)

Thanks for sharing, it was a nice read.

I wonder what WD haters will invent now with those kind of results ...

I had to update drivers for a HP Laserjet printer yesterday. Windows Defender called it malicious and deleted the file. Disabled Defender and tried to install. It reactivated itself midway and killed the installation, again deleting the file. Had to disable, set an exclusion while it was disabled and then install. Had to repeat on 3 PCs. If I disable something it should stay that way, at least until a reboot. Again. more time lost to false positives then actual malware.
