Something probably just went sideways during the upgrade. Maybe using the Upgrade assistant did something? Just speculation of course. Things worked for the most apart, but very sluggishly. Even trying to log into my Admin account would cause the laptop to fall into a sleep mode of sorts. Just weird stuff. That is the luxury of having a reliable image and restore program with very recent backups on hand. When something doesn't go as expected, it's quick and easy to dial back. Anyways, once the update is available in my region, I'll try again. My hardware is very new, Lenovo E580 laptop with 8 GB RAM, so I'm confident it can't be the problem.

Brian, Disk cleanup was actually the last application I tried to run before I restored using IFW boot disk. It, too, was very sluggish and would not open to where one has the advanced options.

that's odd. but i don't mean running it by "clean up system files" via disk cleanup. you need to run it as admin via its start menu shortcut's context menu or admin tools in cp.

Understood, and that's the way I immediately launch it, as Admin.

Thanks, if I encounter further issues with disk cleanup after upgrading, I'll try that.

Yep, I've never been able to figure out what goes wrong when an upgrade does not go well. I'd say I have ok luck with upgrades maybe 75% of the time, but about 25% of the time, randomly, one will go sideways like yours, and everything will be really slugish and messed up. Not only on my machine, but I have seen several other friends' machines display the same symptoms after an upgrade, just sluggish performance mostly.

Anyway, I use Macrium constantly and keep many images of many versions of everything, but again, when a new release comes out, I typically spend a few hours and do a clean install. To each his own I guess, right? :)

2nd system clean installed with 1903, this time Enterprise version. No issue so far, except small occasional glitches in start menu.

I'm going try the upgrade on my other older Win10 machine from 1809 to 1903 after MR runs its scheduled backup later this evening.

    @guest ,

Keep an eye out for more entertainment just for you. :D

Looks like I need to purchase some dual layer DVDs to burn my ISO. Again, yes I know I can use a flash drive.

I also have a problem with Windows Defender.
It is activated in the bar and then disappears.
If you open "Windows Security" a message informs me that it is impossible to open the application.
The IT administrator has disabled Windows Security.

An installation keeping the data does not solve the problem.

I don't know Brian. I've tried two different brands and wasted several disks and I get a message that the disk isn't compatible with my drive. I did once see a message saying the DVD wasn't big enough from the ISO I downloaded using a Linux User Agent.

Worse, the machine I was going to try will not boot from MR recovery CDs, DVDs or USB flash drives for some reason. Unless that machine boots to Windows where I can add MR to the boot menu I'll be stuffed. I have checked, double and triple checked the BIOS. I played a DVD cleaner disk in Windows, no problem, but that machine still refuses to boot from any rescue media.

I have encountered an issue with Windows 10 HOME after that update to 1903.

"Computers fail/hang on boot after the Microsoft Windows April 9, 2019 update"

I don't have Sophos. My AV is Bitdefender.

Krusty, the ISO downloaded from Linux User Agent is larger that the one downloaded from MCT. Since Win10 ver 1809 the larger ISO won't fit on a standard DVD.

Is there a Boot Menu in the BIOS? Is there a Boot Priority Order in the BIOS?
