KB4500705 is the "Customer guidance for CVE-2019-0708", KB4500331 is the security update.

This is important (good) news in that Microsoft is very aware reaching back to cover previous versions for this is paramount that their reputation status not take another severe hit as Wannacry openly exposed them with.

I been belly aching for years on deaf ears that it would be to Microsoft's benefit going forward to revisit previous versions and bring them not only up to solid compliance on the security side but also beef up what they can with (ie:explorer.exe) and other files to boost performance/dependability.

That would encourage users who have tuned against them and Windows 10 to take another look, perhaps more favorably on their current 10 series enough to transition.

Many of us with the same thoughts exactly. With the way that they've been so insistent? with the Windows 10 demands they've endorsed so feverishly to date, this is quite an about face.

    But a welcome one nonetheless.

An update for XP? are you kidding me? I'd be very wary that they aren't pulling some nasty trick to put another nail in the coffin :cautious:

What a joke... so another backdoor was discovered or "leaked" and we are calling it a vulnerability? :argh:

And we should be thankfull that after all these years microsoft decided to close another of their backdoors...o_O

Thanks for updating the actual download for us.

That outbreak and subsequent spurts of other ones quite similar must really have had enough of an impact on the company as a whole that they took this measure to backtrack a bit on it to seal up that one fully.

    Hello Reality.

Unfortunately it's only a matter of time when bad actors reverse
engineer M$ security patches and attack an unpatched OS. Whether they
go after Windows XP and other OS affected is hard to say, but there
    is that possibility.
