Switched from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 LTSC as I don't like the way things are going with the Store and the bundled apps. Also dropped AdGuard for now as uBlock Origin does all I need.

Removed superfluous security software, don't really need them anyway. Secure enough with AppGuard Enterprise.
Still considering if i should remove Binisoft WFC...

Can you block out going requests with AppGuard? Like swreporter from chrome?

you can only block exe/dlll/drivers from executing; AppGuard isn't a firewall, it is SRP.

    Hello everyone,

I very rarely post here. The knowledge of all the members is astonishing. I lurk to try to pick up some knowledge.

My computer is Windows 7 SP1 64 bit build 7601. I had been using Bit Defended Free and Private Firewall.

I use the system mostly for surfing (and lurking), I belong to a user group, shopping and some banking

I kept getting a message regarding a system attack and the need to take over my computer. I just shut the computer down, it was faster than trying to close the messages.

At the same time the computer was slow to boot up and ran slowly. One day I had a BSOD. I went to the Sysnative Forum. They asked me to run a scan they use. The problem was a bad driver in BitDefender.
I ran an online ESET scan which showed no problems as well as an EmiSoft Emergency Kit Scan which showed nothing as well.

I deleted both and installed ESET Nod 32 and OS Armor. I chose those because of the number of times they were well spoke of in this thread.

My question would be if I should add some other type of security software to tighten up what I have now?

I also wonder if I can run Windows Defender and/or Windows Firewall as extra security.

    Thanks much

Your setup is fine. You might consider adding TinyWall to harden Windows Firewall since you're still on W7. You can find it @ tinywall.pados.hu. It's lightweight, non-intrusive and easy to use. Otherwise, keep it simple. :thumb:

    My new minimalistic setup:

    Windows 10 Pro N

    Adguard DNS

    Edge in Application Guard

    VPN with TunSafe

    That is all.

I would only add software to backup your system and data and adblocker for your browser if you don't use one. Otherwise your setup seems OK.

I see that I have posted my security setup here since 2005. In the beginning I was a security software junkie but since 2007 I have mainly used the same simple security setup I have today: The Linux approach.
Just a standard account in Windows, and a good imaging software and later years Sandboxie and VPN, and with extensions hardened browsers for some privacy and ad blocking (ublock origin) Has served me well.

I have a new Windows 10 Pro 64 bit PC. I am debating what Security Apps to install on it.

    So far I have:

    Security:

    ESET NOD32 AV
I plan to install/configure Sandboxie (Paid) this weekend.
    Emsisoft Emergency Kit (On demand)

    Backup:

Image for Windows/Image for DOS/Image for Linux

I may install MBAM and purchase a MBAM license soon.

I want to use AppGuard but it looks like they are commercial now with a higher price. Any suggestions for Appguard replacement?

I'll second that. I'd also forget MBAM, and get VoodooShield if you don't use H_C. Perfect with Eset! :thumb:

    Desktop + laptop + notepad

    Eset IS - HitmanPro.A

On demand : Malwerebytes - RogueKiller
+ Easeus todo every month - Adblocker ultimate on firefox

    That's all, light and powerfull.

Have installed AdGuard again as it's now in beta and I have to say - I think they've nailed it. With the CoreLibs integration, browsing now feels just as snappy as it does using a browser extension like uBlock Origin.

Been watching you oscillating in and out of Adguard ;). I also play with AdGuard and uBO, even both (needlessly of course :D).

Looking forward to the Windows release.

It has been a complicated relationship, that's for sure :argh: I really do think it's a top tier product now though with its CoreLibs integration. I use the premium version on Android also which is great.

I've been thinking of adding VoodooShield. Currently I just have Windows 10 and the Microsoft antivirus. I tried some of the advance configurations to allow certain apps or not but there were repeated problems, especially with Word and saving documents. I have used AppGuard in the past and liked it but haven't used it in a few years. Besides the Microsoft antivirus I have been trying some on demand scanners such as from Emsi and Eset.

    OS: Win10 Pro 64bit ( *latest )
FW: MBAM WFC (*it's free for now, so why not, has more options. though tbh i'd be fine with the default windows firewall.)
AV: Avast (*free. Although i'm considering whether Avira is a better choice.)
OD: AdwCleaner, Zemana AntiMalware, mbam free, hitman pro
    Active anti malware: Zemana AntiMalware
    Others: OSArmor, MBAE
Privacy: uBlock Origin (lots of added filters, probably too many to list specifically), uBlock Origin Extra, uMatrix, https everywhere, Netcraft, decentraleyes, Nanodenfer (configured for ublock use by adding filter to uBlock), PIA VPN, RT Merlin F/W using ddnssec/dots cloudflare dns, Windows Privacy Dashboard, O&O ShutUp10
Backup: win10 System restore (a proper backup solution and snapshots is probably more ideal tbh. Things like sandboxie/shadowdefender look interesting but when i last tried these solutions, it felt a bit too annoying to use. I do have backups i store on a NAS, so even if PC goes kapoot i still retain the important stuff. But it's just annoying to set backup again, like i said not ideal. I'll get around this sometime. I do have Aomei Backupper but i'm not sure how well this app is compared to alternatives for backing up desktop PC. )

a few other things i tried but ended up uninstalling
Sysharderner: This killed access to my NAS. It's too restrictive, so i system restore and removed it. I'm sure people who are familiar with the settings can avoid the landmine, but this is beyond my knowlege.
VoodooShield: was gonna try this but there is discussion whether it is secure or not. some comments about how easy it is to disable this app to bypass it's protection. thats why i did not bother.
Reg guard service: I could not start the app. Something is probably blocking it but i'm not sure what. So i couldn't try it out.
Hitman alert pro: was considering this as a replacement for zemana and MBAE, since it has an active malware scanner, but from my experience with this app, it feels to restrictive and may break stuff from working. I did not have this issue when using MBAE for anti exploit.

any tips for any possible overlap app is welcome :} i just assume that there is no or little overlap. or at least i don't have a usage issue with this setup.
