As far as Microsoft's "supposed endorsement" of Huorong, note the following:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/49500/list-of-antivirus-software-vendors

In other words, all Microsoft is stating is the AVs are compatible with the OS version noted:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18900/consumer-antivirus-software-providers-for-windows

Hmmm...I'm on Vista so I can see only
Thanks for such "useful" MS info...users of olders system don't exist for them.
BTW...in my country people say " if you want to beat a dog you will always find a stick". Your arguments aren't enough to reject this app. I think it's possible to find similar reprots about others security vendors (not only from China).

In my country there are a couple of sayings.

First is "Each to their own."

Second is "You can bring a horse to water, but you can't make them drink."

For a forum supposedly dedicated to internet security, people sure are eager to put themselves at risk for no damn reason.

If you take some care, it is extremely hard to get infected, no matter what security software you use. While I don't use Huorong (although I have tested it), I'm sure I wouldn't get infected if I used it, even though its detection rate is not very good.

Unless the software is the infection.

This is a well established antivirus, that was released in 2011, so I don't think there is anything to worry about, unless you're paranoid.

A relatively unknown AV, with poor detection rates, produced in a country with a government known for forcing backdoors into software, that also has massive bugs with crashing, bluescreens, updating, etc.

You don't have to be paranoid to want to steer clear. There are PLENTY of other reputable options out there that you can turn to without jeopardizing anything.

@entropism I've had no issues with blue screens, crashes, or updating, on two different computers. It worked fine for me, other than the poor detection rate.

I don't recommend it, only because of the poor detection rates and I'm quite happy with my current antivirus, which is also from China.

You don`t need to install any foreign muck when pcmatic`s freely available.

Yes I agree. About 10 years ago I didn't have any problems with software from Russia and China, but times have changed.

Thanks for the screenshots. I wonder what type of behaviors the HIPS is monitoring? But overall, it seems to be a bit too bloated, sometimes less features is more.

    Very good suggestion.

I had a web conversation with a mainland China pen tester that I swap ideas with in another forum. He contacted the developer and "set me straight" on the product.

To begin with, the Hybrid-Analysis links I posted reflected meta data detections and none of the related .exe's were infected.

Next was the statement that Huorong is very much a product geared toward in-country use. Their malware harvesting methods and resultant signature definition reflect this fact. The product is very good for example, in detecting a number of Chinese targeted malware that many of the major AV vendors miss. On the other hand, out-of-country distributed malware detection via signature detection is deficient and appears to be so by design. The company just doesn't have the resources to support this type of effort.

In fact you have to be living in Asia to understand. Asian (I'm mixblood btw) and especially Chinese like fancy all in one products, look at their most famous chat app named Wechat, you can do almost everything with it even business transactions.

@itman it was obvious, but some short sighted people like to bash things they don't even have a clue about.

A lot of info we have on MT in the thread of user @Jerry.Lin...some his mentions
"Its HIPS supports custom rules. Simple and Powerful.

    Some useful features

    -Support Wildcards "*" (Replace all chars ), ">" (Replace until "\"), "?" (a char)
    - FD, RD, AD(a little bit weak)
    - Very Clear, Easy to use and setup
    - Exception allow/deny
    - Import and Export Rules"

"Brief summary its pros and cons
    pros:
    1. HVM (Huorong Virtual Machine, Dynamic Heuristic), high capability of unpacking and detecting known threats/variants.
    2. Extremely small virus database ( below 5mb) but cover most malware ( means one signature can match thousands of variants)
    cons:
    1. Weak to new threats (no cloud engine yet)
    2. In some situation, performance is not so good (when a lot of new programs load, like ESET, both rely on local heuristic/sandbox)

Their approaches are very closed to ESET"

Here is the post with HIPS rules
    https://malwaretips.com/threads/huo...-chinese-public-beta.91408/page-3#post-808639

Yes...you are right becouse they have passion and rather there is no problem for them to do something risky to know something new...to resolve some issue...or just to satisfy their curiosity.
You should remember that they are rather more aware of problems like system errors, infection, strange and dangerous behaviour of some files/apps and they know how to test it not doing himself serious troubles.

Yes and I hate apps that try to do everything. Also, from what I've seen in the screenshots, you can't fine tune what type of behaviors are being monitored, so SpyShelter remains the only standalone HIPS with this ability.
