I guess those tools didn't remove your profile folder. The issue may also be due to a corrupt profile, so you could try using a clean profile, installing your previous addons and see it the issue persists.

I've unistalled Firefox, removed my profile, reinstallled, and have the same problems, plus a new one.
Now, I cannot even update my Firefox - always checking, checking, etc...
And it's on my Win10 PRO.
Most possible, some kind of "optimizer" has messed up with my settings.
Maybe, it's Kerish Doctor, maybe, Reg Organizer, maybe Advanced System Care, etc...

if so, try to repair it or install it from scratch. in most cases repair wont help, good luck.

    I'll do that.
    A side question.

How is it possible that our favorite Firefox has become so integrated into the computer's system?
It's easier to remove any AV or any other app/software than that "private and secure" Firefox.

Firefox 66.0.4 upcoming because of the latest cert issue this morning.

@zmechys - in win10 try to get along with windows defender solely. it is that good and firefox has also its own security and privacy settings.
i use ublock as my first defense line versus ads and script, but adblock plus and/or noscript is also fine.
it is no good idea to use cleaners on firefox, they will destroy the profile at last.
if you need a second opinion if you think you have adware on your system -> use Adcleaner.
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

you dont need to bloat firefox with extensions
    (bad example: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/firefox-extensions-for-security-privacy.416192/#post-2824430 )

firefox 67 and 68 are sharpend against tracking, offer more different settings.

Here is something new with Firefox after the Win10 update.
While using VPN and Sandboxie, after 10 minutes, I get the following statement from Firefox.

FF 66.0.4 has been released and is available form the internal updater. This fixes the issue with extensions.

I have manually updated (not internally because I could not) Firefox but got the same issues with Add-ons, and updates.
That "smell" of messed-up Firefox is still there.
I truly believe Firefox must make one version for those who value "safety and security, and privacy", and the other version for those who indulge in convenient comfortability with their vision, "Who cares?"
