I like its simple minimalist design. The rest of changes is mostly under the hood and frankly I don't have an opinion yet as opera works as before.

I have checked it out, wasn't impressed at all. I wouldn't call this a true successor of the old Opera that was based on Presto. I freaking hate this "bare bones" nonsense.

    Thanks.

Who said it is the Presto's true successor? Opera Chromium has been on the market almost 6 years and you now surprisingly discovered that it isn't the Presto fork. Are you serious? No, you must be kidding. Your comment leads to think that you thought that Opera 60 (reborn) will suddenly revert back to Presto ages. If you really thought so, you apparently didn't concede the Opera's direction since they left Presto. You're just complaining repeatedly, who cares? You have tons of other options. So be happy with them!

Well, apparently you care. And no, there aren't tons of other options. But let me explain, to me the browser is the most important and most used app on the system, since I mostly browse the web. So I'm very frustrated about the lack of quality from browsers like Opera, Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Vivaldi is good when it comes to features, but it's quite sluggish. Can't believe that it's this hard to build a good browser. So yes, I will keep complaining.

I'm using - it's not my main browser - Opera Portable. Now I'm thinking to switch to the installed version. Some security problems with the fact that Opera is Chinese ? I anyway use firewall, and HIPS in " deny for default and allow for except ".

I'm not aware of any. Having Chinese capital means nothing as regards the security. There are many Chinese investors around the globe owning the big corporations and you don't even know it. Still you cannot say they're dangerous in principle. For me, it's just a bloated bubble.

Not completely. I like facts rather than non constructive complaining. However I cannot help myself but I do it sometimes too. :)

Well, I was being sarcastic of course. But I hope you now understand where all of this complaining is coming from. I thought I had found the almost perfect browser in Vivaldi, but the performance issues are starting to get on my nerves. Some more complaining about Opera: I noticed that the VPN makes browsing very slow, so it's a garbage feature.

Are you still using XP? Vivaldi was hardly 'sluggish' for me on Win 7 and Ubuntu. What exactly are the qualities lacking in Chrome and Firefox? Opera seemed OK on Windows, and there is a Mac version, but I stopped using it when they kept sneaking stuff into the speed dial. It's an improvement over the Presto Opera in many ways though.

Hmm, not in my case on all devices regardless OS. Try to change VPN settings from automatic.

I already explained, there is a lack of customization options in Chrome, Opera and Firefox, mostly related to tab management. About Vivaldi being sluggish, you probably won't notice it when you are not using many tabs at the same time.

If you open about 40 to 50 tabs and Vivaldi stays in memory for a couple of hours, it will start to act weird. Tabs will open slower, and websites might start to freeze when scrolling. You will also see CPU time going up. I'm not sure if other browsers like Opera and Chrome have the same problem, I have never tested it.

Didn't help for me, and I'm talking about the desktop version.

Oh right. That doesn't necessarily make them rubbish though does it? Obviously if a particular browser doesn't suit your individual browsing needs it's no good for you. Firefox has changed somewhat over the ten years or so that I've used it, but it can still be customised to an extent. IME Firefox still does what it says on the tin, and does it well.

    custom.jpg

A few things bug even me though and I'm not normally much of a super-Kevin about browser things. For instance, the third party cookie blocking seems a tad overcomplicated to me.

    close.jpg

Also the 'drum roll' and the Close tabs? dipstick warning gets on my blue tits quite regularly. I mean, I chose to close multiple tabs, I wonder why Mozilla think that this has to be regularly queried? This notice can be turned off for a session but gets reinstated upon re-opening the browser.

AFAIK Chrome was designed to be basic and to utilise extensions for any needed customisation. In my experience it's OK and runs pretty well on Mac and Ubuntu. For some reason Sage Pay doesn't recognise it on retail sites. So I can't use Opera, Vivaldi or any other browsers based on Chromium/Blink to purchase goods on at least five retail sites I use regularly. Firefox and Safari have no problems. When I brought this up on the new Opera forums I was told that I should contact Sage Pay about the issue as they'd be more likely to listen to an average punter like me than a corporation like Opera. I always found the Opera forums (new and old) to be about as much use as listening to a sea shell anyway. I think Opera is in the Ubuntu repo, it can stay there for all I care.

The Vivaldi forums OTOH are usually pretty helpful. I've never had 800 tabs up on any browser, so I think you just need better hardware, or a Cray supercomputer or something similar. Bugvaldi does suffer from feature creep in my opinion, every upgrade they add about 57 new features and there are about 57 new bugs they never fix. So, basically the same as Opera Presto then.

At the end of the day you can't have everything and you will have to compromise somewhat.

Oh yeah, while I'm in super-Kevin mode, this bugs me as well.

I have no idea why Mozilla won't let me just save the document in full size format by default.

Well, in my view that does make them rubbish, because tab management and bookmarks management are two very important functions of browsers in my view. Same goes for resource usage and speed.

Technically, they're only subjective rubbish though, and probably peculiar to your hardware and/or software.
