An indictment has been filed against Afek Zard in Israel over the alleged theft of 74.990.74 Dash (over $9 million) from his roommate, local media News1 reports on April 18.

According to CoinMarketCap data, the amount of coins stolen is equivalent to over 0.85% of the total circulating supply of Dash. News1 states that the reported victim, Alexei Yaromenko, was reportedly an early cryptocurrency investor who has accumulated crypto assets since 2013.
Per the report, the coins were present in Yaromenko’s wallet until March 1, when Dash was worth $82.5 per unit. The prosecutors claim that at the beginning of the month, the defendant used the alleged victim’s computer to steal the credentials to the crypto wallets.

Now, Rossi Lorathio Adams II could face two decades in prison. A jury found him guilty Thursday of hiring the intruder to break into the house in Cedar Rapids in 2017 to force the transfer of an internet domain at gunpoint, according to the US Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Iowa.

"Between 2015 and 2017, Adams repeatedly tried to obtain 'doitforstate.com,' but the owner of the domain would not sell it. Adams also threatened one of the domain owner's friends with gun emojis after the friend used the domain to promote concerts," court records show.
Then he had an idea: Why not take it by force?

The intruder, Adams' cousin Sherman Hopkins Jr., was sentenced to 20 years in prison last year.
Now it's Adams' turn. He will remain in custody pending sentencing. He faces a maximum 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.

A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after becoming one of the first people in the United States to be convicted of stealing cryptocurrency by hacking into cell phones. Prosecutors in Santa Clara announced the jail sentence on April 22.
In February, Joel Ortiz had pleaded guilty and to theft and accepted the 10-year plea deal.

Ortiz stole more than $7.5 million from at least 40 victims: the press release notes that he then spent $10,000 a time at Los Angeles nightclubs, hired a helicopter to fly him and his friends to a music festival, and bought top-end Gucci clothes and luggage.

A 19-year-old hacker was accused under the article "unauthorized access to computer information." Employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Omsk region found and detained him.

Omsk investigators found that in the autumn of 2017 the defendant hacked into the payment system using special software from his home computer. The system was intended to make online payment of utilities.
As a result, the hacker was able to gain access to user personal accounts. After copying all the information, he contacted representatives of the Service and offered for a fee to provide information about the way to fix the vulnerability in the security system.

The court found him guilty and sentenced him to twelve months for unauthorized access to computer information.

Investigations found that the suspects obtained the personal and bank account information of the inmates from a guard working at a prison and then confirmed the information through their contact at the Hakkari Çukurca Civil Registry.
The criminal gang then used the information to illegally access the mobile bank accounts of the inmates. The suspects stole 1,097,337 Turkish liras ($184,675).
Eleven suspects were later arrested by a court ruling, while four were released under judicial control.

More than 50 people were detained by police in Chongqing as part of a nationwide effort to track down and dismantle a criminal gang known to have traded almost 39 million pieces of information over the past seven years, People’s Daily reported on Sunday.
During their inquiries they discovered that a gang with at least 50 members was operating across the country, stealing and trading in everything from names, addresses and dates of birth, to ID card and mobile phone numbers.

Of the dozens of people taken in for questioning, 32 were tried and convicted last year, and given prison sentences of up to 5½ years. A further seven suspects are awaiting prosecution, the report said.

A former employee of Chinese drone maker DJI was sentenced to six months in prison and fined RMB 200,000 for unauthorized disclosure of the company’s data to code-sharing platform Github, according to the prosecutor involved in the case.

The office of the People’s Procuratorate of Shenzhen posted on messaging app WeChat on Friday the sentence, though it did not reveal the company’s name. A DJI spokeswoman confirmed to TechNode on Monday that it was the subject of the data breach case.
The codes revealed included those used in an aircraft management platform and spraying system solution, which caused losses of RMB 1.14 million ($170,000) for the company, according to DJI.

The unnamed employee, a 28-year-old engineer who later said he committed the act unintentionally, turned himself in immediately to the local police, and deleted the data after the investigation, according to prosecutors.
