Samsung announced the Galaxy Fold during a press event in San Francisco.
The Galaxy Fold is the first phone that consumers will be able to buy with a folding display.
You will be able to use it like a tablet or in a smaller form factor like a phone.

Good! I got a good price on my S9+ due to a half price sale and a fair trade in on my previous phone. I won't be doing an S10 unless they sell it to me for $300 or less.

People keep their computers (or parts) for years, why should they have to buy a new phone every year or two. Microsoft keeps an OS updated for many many years, yet many phone manufacturers dump the phone (as in no updates) as soon as it gets like a year old or even less. Many times what you're buying is what you're going to get, you might not even get any updates going forward, not to mention the speed at which phone hardware advances, buying a phone is such a robbery

Phones are more expensive than ever. Flagship devices from Apple, Samsung, Google, and other top manufacturers can now cost hundreds of dollars more than they did just a couple of years ago. Now, with the arrival of foldable phones, which are being priced at $2,000 and above, it looks like the upper limit for phone prices is going to keep growing.

In 2016, for example, Samsung charged $670 for a brand-new Galaxy S7. This year’s Galaxy S10 starts at $900.
That’s in large part because phones are getting harder to sell. Far more people own a smartphone today than just a few years ago, and people are holding on to their phones for longer

The downside of this trend is that, yes, you’ll now have to spend more than you did just a few years ago to get the absolute best phone out there. But the upside is that the phone you buy is likely to be nicer, and you’re likely to hold on to it for even longer.

Look closely at the picture above, and you can see a small bulge right on the crease of my Galaxy Fold review unit. It’s just enough to slightly distort the screen, and I can feel it under my finger. There’s something pressing up against the screen at the hinge, right there in the crease. My best guess is that it’s a piece of debris, something harder than lint for sure. It’s possible that it’s something else, though, like the hinge itself on a defective unit pressing up on the screen.

Despite a disastrous early review round, early reports were that Samsung was determined to proceed with the launch of their Galaxy Fold on 26th April. Early reviewers discovered a few potential major design flaws including an easy to remove protective film layer, which it turns out was vital for the integrity of the display, other issues with the fragility of the display and also the ability for items to insert themselves under the display.

But I'd argue that whether or not removing the film contributed to the problems, or whether or not there's a warning, it's absolutely bonkers that Samsung would ship a $2,000 device where users can easily remove the thin, plastic film but shouldn't, when there's even the slightest risk that doing so will permanently damage the unit.

And while the issue is clearly not affecting all Galaxy Fold units — or at least, not yet — I would think that even one such busted unit should be a huge catastrophe for any company trying to plant its flag in a new market.

Apple gets knocked around, fairly and not, for being late to new markets and design trends, sometimes with devices that are less powerful than what its competitors offer. The defense has always been that Apple would rather get it right than rush something out to be the first.
That defense has never rung truer than amid this Samsung Galaxy Fold fiasco.

There's been another teardown of the Galaxy Fold, and this one might help explain why Samsung decided to delay the phone's launch. iFixit has conducted a part-by-part dissection that suggests the design is "alarmingly fragile," particularly around the hinge.

The findings might help explain at least one of the review unit failures. The Verge's Dieter Bohn noted that his Galaxy Fold developed a bulge that ultimately broke a conspicuous number of pixels. If debris was at fault, that wouldn't bode well for everyday users whose phones might break relatively easily.
It's not completely surprising that the Fold would be vulnerable when it's not rated for dust or water resistance. Still, this latest teardown isn't confidence-inspiring.
