Awesome @mood-This is the Bread & Butter of instant fix since Windows bundled the O/S with store and such.
Repairs like a dream especially the Permissions which seem on occasion to muff things now and then. One Click and Presto!

Ok. I'm thinking about trying this tool for the first time. My windows update is not working. I keep getting error messages. I've tried the troubleshooter and I've also downloaded the KB files directly and they won't install.

I understand that this tool can fix windows update. I would love any suggestions or tips on how to use this tool to fix windows update service? Thank you.

On the repairs screen you can just check "Repair Windows Updates" and leave everything else unchecked.

It's all pretty self explanatory, but it does recommend booting into Safe Mode before doing the repairs. There's a button that will even do that for you.

Run the tool and use it to boot into SAFE mode. You can run the preliminary tests, like SFC /scannow, if you wish or skip ahead to the repairs. By the default all of the repairs are checked so uncheck them first. Then enable just the "fix windows update" repair and run it.

I use 8.1 but like some of you there were times when the store/tiles just fudged matters up whatever the reason and combing thru Google searches ideas and experiments just didn't do any good. However this program was the only one that at a click of a switch after selecting the task you need-returned those functions right back as though it was a new windows install. And it stays that way.

Wish you the best on achieving the same satisfactory results. Side note- The Registry Backup integrated in it is another time saving element they built into this program that just plain works when all else doesn't.

I finally got around to trying out this amazing program. For the past couple of weeks, I've been unable to use Windows Update. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to work. I tried 3-4 different programs and they wouldn't work. I tried downloading the files and manually installing them. No dice.

Today, I finally got the chance to reboot into Safe Mode and only selected one thing to repair-Windows Update; that's right, only one checkbox. It took less than 5 minutes. I rebooted into normal windows and Windows Update worked like a charm!!

What an amazing program! I'm going to purchase the Pro version just to show my support!

I for one had no reservations that it would work as expected but so happy for you @Alexhousek that you also now have realized a solid experience from this great program.
It's the only one that is ever been able to piece Windows Tiles/Store back together again on my systems as well as reset permissions for files/folders without me having to resort to a CustomRefresh Image (Win 8 only) to repair matters when things act up on it.

Tweaking.com doesn't high pressure anyone to their paid software products and you can see why. Free version just plain works and the paid product adds even more great features that saves time and effort.

That's a login screen. Can you press the spacebar to login?

Pressing space bar did not open the login. Originally, I had tried to use the program to reboot into safe mode. I decided to use Windows 10 advanced startup to reboot into Safe Mode; and it worked. I was able to then run Windows Repair and only selected the "Windows update" checkbox. After rebooting, however, windows update still didn't work. (As you will see, it wasn't the fault of the program, however.)

Attempts to enable windows update service in services.msc were not successful. My computer would not allow me to enable the windows update service. I remembered that in my earlier attempts to fix windows update, I downloaded and installed a utility called WUMT Wrapper Script. It was the culprit. Once I uninstalled this program (and undid the script), windows update worked.

@Alexhousek It's strange that booting into Safe Mode did not work, as there should be zero difference between booting into Safe Mode from Windows Repair, or from Windows itself.
But you have got the Windows Update problem solved now, which is good.

Yes that is a "Major" update given the manner that Windows 10 latest release is putting some software developers like this one in the soup to meet compatibility for all the different and even slight changes they introduce.

    Thanks As Always!
