I've just found out that the new version has become nagware/crippleware or whatever you want to call it. The free version is pretty much useless, and I'm not willing to pay 40 bucks a month, this is crazy. I must admit that it's a pretty good app. So what are you guys using for downloading movies from YouTube, any recommendations? To clarify, I prefer standalone apps, so no online services. On Firefox you had this amazing extension, but it's no longer available. https://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Download-Managers/YTD-Video-Downloader.shtml
I use Internet Download Manager or IDM. Its a paid app. 1 month trial available. Free open source alternatives I recommend are XDM or Jdownloader(look for adfree installer for this one). I've also read good things about Ant Download manager. Limited free version available.
JDownloader2 or 3dyoutube downloader (from the maker of Youtube source) https://yd.3dyd.com/ good thing about it, its free and has 4k, HDR, HFR and 3d support.. so enjoy downloading 4k vids in HDR. for example.. greetz
On one pc I use VSO downloader http://www.vso-software.fr/products/downloader/vso-downloader.php and on my main system Internet download manager https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/
I've been using the open-source Save Tube Tampermonkey script for years; it's also available as an extension for Firefox and Maxthon: https://gitlab.com/sebaro/SaveTube
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not going to quote everyone, but I'm going to give my feedback: I couldn't get youtube-dl-gui and SaveTube to work, so this turned me off. I have no interest in full download managers like IDM. The Video DownloadHelper extension doesn't always work. About VSO Downloader, I believe it integrates quite deep into the browser, I rather not have this. Now for the good news, I liked 3D Youtube Downloader but I totally forgot about 4k Video Downloader. It stopped working months ago, but the new version is very fast. BTW, I have also tried Videoder and Free Youtube Download, but couldn't install them correctly with Sandboxie, which is usually a bad sign. https://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Download-Managers/4k-Video-Downloader.shtml https://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-Download.htm https://www.videoder.com
Youtube dl gui I had to install some VC++ runtime file because youtube-dl would not run... try running youtube-dl (command line) by itself and see if you get an error message or the help screen. I am using youtube-dl gui on both Linux and Windows... Too Much stuff is bundle-ware any more... rrrh1
Too much work, I like stuff that just works. I tried them, but didn't like it. Tools like YTD and 4K Video Downloader are much handier. Too bad that YTD is so expensive, I really liked it and would be willing to pay a lower fee. But you must also keep in mind that these tools often need to be updated, because they may stop working when Google messes up stuff, so freaking annoying.
BTW, will VSO Downloader be able to download this video? https://www.telegraaf.nl/video/3667904/rapper-boef-pakt-bizar-uit-voor-jarige-vriendin
OK cool, then I may have to check them out. The only problem is that they will probably try to access browser memory, this is a security risk. But hopefully I can use a dedicated browser for this, this means that they will only integrate into a certain browser.
BTW, I just noticed that with the latest versions of YTD and 4K Video Downloader, I once again can't download a lot of videos from YouTube. Why does Google have to be like this? They can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.
BTW, seems like 3D Youtube Downloader is way better than I thought. Where 4K and YTD will fail, it hasn't got any difficulties downloading most videos, awesome tool.
I'm not sure. Actually, I prefer not to download whole lists. Seems like when I copy a video from a playlist, it will only download that file. But I'm really impressed by this tool, seems the developer is very smart.
I see. I also don't download whole playlists but some days ago I had to download some 80+ videos. Had to do 1 by 1 with IDM which was annoying.
Yes I can imagine. I do know that YTD always offers to download the whole playlist. But like I said, it's too expensive and often stops working. I have to say that 3D is pretty aweome, I just discovered it can even download only audio. Very handy, because I download mostly music videos. The developer seems to be a very talented guy.
If you're downloading music which doesn't make you watch the video cuz of how good it is, you're downloading the wrong music
