Re my case and Avira's kbid/1976:

    Tuesday night the KB4493509 installed.
Next morning, when I got to the desktop everything kept freezing, I switched the power off, then on again and reboot. Same story again and again.

    a) When happen (Wednesday morning, April 10) the kbid/1976 not exist (Created : Thursday, April 11, 2019, Last updated: Thursday, April 11, 2019).
    b) Even if the kbid/1976 was issued in that time, how to perform the "Uninstall Windows 10 Update" in a frozen PC? (as I said my PC was frozen completelly, the tkbid/1976 applies only in case = "my system run very slow").

I have uninstalled Avira for the time being, and hope for a quick fix from Avira under the circumstances...

I have a question about the Avira free 2019 version that I recently tried to install on a laptop.

Currently have a single device license for Avira Pro that I already use on my desktop, so I was trying to replace Windows Defender on my laptop with Avira free.

I couldn't find any way to install it where I could select just the AV. The installer wants to install the entire free internet security "suite". Then it takes a lot of uninstalling things one at a time to peel it back to just an AV, without all of those other optional free tools cluttering up the system. I already have other tools and processes that cover that extra territory, and don't need the additional bloat.

Is this the way it is now, or am I just missing something? Avira Pro lets me install just the AV (along with the "launcher"), but then all the other tools are optional installs.

I believe that I received the "suite" installer when I clicked on the AV only link the other day. That's why I posed the question, as it appears there is no longer an AV only installer.

To double check that, I followed the link from the AV only page, and it downloaded an exact duplicate file to the one I had already tried. Hmmm...

Please if anyone had this problem before can help me. I can't install Avira after I uninstalled it successfully. The message "The older version of Avira cannot be removed" is shown. I tried Avira registry cleaner. and removed every Avira value from registry And every Avira folder and file. There is a hidden registry value that prevents it from install, but what this value? I don't know.

Have you tried to use the registry cleaner in safe mode?

You may try with the offline installer from softpedia.

Thanks for the info, but as a general security practice, I never download software from 3rd party sites. Especially security software!

That offline installer from Softpedia is 134MB, so it does appear to be a different file than the online installer, which is 5.7MB.

It seems odd that the online installer, which installs everything, is the only download offered from the "Download Avira Free Antivirus 2019" site. https://www.avira.com/en/free-antivirus-windows

Thanks for the info. That appears to be the same link url offered by Softpedia, and a check of the registration for that domain appears to be Avira. So It may be legit.

But still too many hoops to jump. I have found an alternative. :D

Win7/8.1/Server patch conflicts abated, somewhat, but it’s still too early to install the April crop

I've just re-installed Avira Pro on my Windows 10 home version 1809 build 17763.437 and everything seems to be fine...

    "Luke Filewalker "

Upon a detection, "Luke Filewalker" will pop up but will do nothing, just staying on the scree without performing any action. Also cannot close it or make it disappear.
