This version installs as a separate browser and does not replace the original Edge or IE 11

USA still the best. But barely.
    Thanks @IvoShoen
Any timetable when M$ will finalize this & answers to my questions will be provided?

I'm not sure, but hopefully this Spring.

    edge://flags -> Enable AppContainer Lockdown

this will place the sandboxed renderers under more secure Appcontainer integrity rather than untrusted integrity.

    EDIT

    also: Enable GPU AppContainer Lockdown

It would be really weird if they didn't enable it for Windows 10 eventually.

Even with "Allow extensions from other stores" enabled, themes from the Chrome Store won't load.

Good news, I was able to install it via Sandboxie, so it's not using AppContainer and seems to be running quite smoothly. I'm a bit surprised, I'm not going to lie. :D The bad news is that I haven't been able to figure out in which folder it's installed, so I haven't been able to give it network access yet. In certain cases, I need to manually make a firewall rule.

Yes thanks, I just found it. I hate it when apps don't install in Program Files. It's now connected and browsing seems to be going quite smooth. This just might become my Chrome replacement.

I'm also surprised that the Settings page looks quite simple and clear. Favorites are managed in a separate tab, Firefox still doesn't offer this, they should be ashamed! BTW, is the uBlock Origin extension legitimate?

I don't like that either. Hopefully this changes with a future release.

I'd be surprised if it didn't install to the Program Files folder on Windows 10.

Edit: Or maybe they will install it through the Windows Store, making it a sort of Metro app?

Maybe. Time will tell I guess.

I don't necessarily see this browser as being an improvement over Chrome or offering anything that gives me a compelling reason to switch. It's basically just re-branded Chrome under the hood.

You first need to install the Get CRX extension and then you can download the theme files and install them manually and it will work fine.

Have been playing with Edge a bit. It feels quite snappy and sites load quickly. But the bad news is that it misses important features, as expected. At startup it also seems to phone home. But if you're into bare bone browsers, it's not bad at all. But still, I wondered how we got to this point, where there are almost no customization options, and no eye for important details, quite sad.

We got there, because the Web is on the decline, and the lowest common denominator are walled gardens of proprietary entertainment for the masses.

    There's also 13.107.xx.xx, extensionwebstorebase.edgesv.net

Yes, this was mentioned in early reports as well. I tried it oh so briefly and it seems to have a little bit of old Edge mixed in with Chromium but it clearly needs work. Those Edge project people better get crackin' if they want a decent release version sometime this year or they will doom their hope to repeat of the current version's level of acceptance. It would be too bad since the built-in version works well for me. Plato or Aristotle said (about founding governments) something like "A good beginning is more than half the job!" I'll to wait for the released version. :thumb:

I'm not sure what you mean. But to me it's a matter of a very untalented generation of developers. If I was head of development of browsers like Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera, I would be ashamed for releasing such crap. There is no passion, no raising the bar, they simply don't seem to care. So kudos for the Vivaldi team, they have got the right spirit. Only problem is that Vivaldi is still a bit choppy when it comes to performance.

It's a combination of many factors - sometimes, heads of x, and devs themselves don't have much say - not that this absolves them in many cases, as development also follows fashion like anything else. But if you look at the current landscape, the 2019 internet does't give you any more information or flexibility than a 2009, hence the decline. It's all about ads and using this or that app for content (content tied to delivery channel). 1980s cable reinvented.
