One of the first things I did was enable mouse right-clicking on a Mac.

I'm not impressed with this list, but it depends on a user's need of course. I do know that I can probably find a replacement for all of my favorite Windows software. Well, except for certain security tools. And that's something that can't be done on Chromebooks, they don't even offer third party browsers, only crappy Chrome is available, go figure.

I'm not so sure that's the case.

I haven't tried to install this on ChromeOS but it doesn't state it's not compatible.

Pretty soon there should be more Linux apps running on Chrome. I'm not sure what this is all going to come to but I've yet to see a laptop have 11 ~ 12 hours battery use like my ChromeBook. And I don't need an AV.

You can run Firefox on Chrome OS through the Debian VM. You don't need any security tools on Chrome OS which is why they don't offer any.

That's what I don't understand, are apps for Android compatible with Chrome OS? You would think not, because Android is made for mobile phones. If Linux apps will be available, that could be a game changer. But anyway, this topic is about the Mac, so sorry for the off topic.

Haven't had to make use of the list yet. But I'm glad someone compiled one.

Some Android apps are compatible with ChromeOS and Android. I run some apps on macOS, Android and Chrome OS. SkySafari 6 Pro is one of them.

    There is no Windows version.

Yes, but I assume you have to code them separately for both Android and Chrome OS? I believe Apple is planning to make it easier to build apps for macOS and iOS, a bit the same like UWP from Windows. So the same code will work on multiple operating systems.

I should assume so. There's nothing I really miss that I can't run on macOS. Although it would be nice if Gatekeeper let me keep GIMP. I can install it. I can run it. But after closing it down Gatekeeper makes me reinstall it. o_O

BTW, I forgot to ask, but how does macOS handles process privilege elevation? Does it present you alerts similar to UAC on Windows?

It has an Authenticate dialogue box, basically a sudo GUI.

But how is this different when compared to UAC, does it pop up less often or what?

OK, I thought so, otherwise it wouldn't make any sense for Apple to make fun of UAC. BTW, Apple Arcade looks interesting, but it all comes to down to the quality of the games. Apparently they will also work on Apple TV, which I'm planning to buy.

It will prompt you for a username and password, both of which are case sensitive. I've had people bring them to me asking why their credentials didn't work because they were not correctly entering the username they themselves had created. It also allows spaces. If your username is John Smith, you have to enter "John Smith", capitals, spaces and all.

Apple make fun of UAC? Well, I suppose someone had to. I'm not a gamer and I only play chess on my iMac.

Yes they did, back in 2006. About gaming, I think it's a clever move from Apple. They have seen the success of a game like Fortnite and now want a piece of the pie. I have never understood why most popular video games were never released for the Mac. Apparently it's too difficult to port games from Windows to the Mac.

But even when you're running as admin?

UAC was a PITA IIRC. :argh:

There are games for Mac. I don't know how popular they are. Personally, I'd rather read a book lol.

From what I have seen, yes. There is no Yes/No prompt like in Windows if that is what you meant.

Android seems to be an entirely different system on Chrome OS run in a locked down VM. Chrome OS is Gentoo hardened to begin with and has additional sandboxing over what Chrome has as a stand alone on another OS.

It's becuase the market share of Macs is very tiny compared to Windows computers. I guess software devleopers don't feel that there is a big enough market share to make it worthwhile devleoping for Macs.

Where did you make those screenshots from? I believe these are very basic games. Apple Arcade games are going to be more advanced.

Then definitely not for me. Would turn it off.

Not sure what you mean, but I was trying to figure out if apps have to be designed specifically for Chrome OS or not. Or do all Android apps also work on the Chrome OS?

Correct, but if developing those games was easy, I guess they would have done it.

I checked my GOG library to see what games I own that can run on Mac.

    Brutal Legend
Dungeon Keeper Gold (Not the second one though)
    Dungeons 2
    Dungeons 3
    Psychonauts
    Retro City Rampage DX
    Starbound
    Stardew Valley
    Yooka-Laylee
^ Those are the only games that are even remotely popular. Half of them are old, the other half are indie games that don't have AAA graphics.

Basically, the big budget games aren't being ported. And they probably never will be.
