just shows how pointless using a 3rd party fw sw is. even matousec gave up promoting them.

People see too much crap hacker movies, thinking a dude will portscan and penetrate manually their network with netcat LOL.
Hackers will just send an weaponized email or link to a malicious scripted webpage.
So where is the need of a 3rd party FW for average joe? none.

there was a time when his tests were really helpful, and then started the comodo hunt up and down. the tests themselves got questionable, at least i took my chance in my own hands.
on win 8 for my working system i do, but all of my win10 are only using windows firewall with no additional config. but i am going to test malwarebytes WFC on my ltsc a a more convenient UI.

In Texas, I often saw vultures circling dead stuff. Now a thread to do it. Hmm. Mat's site was fun in its day. It kept a lot of back&forth discussions going here at Wilders. It was fun. Nowadays it seems WIlders is less so. Not quite as friendly as back then. Too much dissing IMO. Lighten up, maybe?

You are right, @bellgamin, those were the days :) I think the biggest issue people had with Matousec is he put way too much emphasis on his requirements for firewalls to pass leaktests, rather than just accepting what a firewall is really meant to do: filter network traffic.

In fact at the end, matousec was more about HIPS than firewall.

Well it was a very useful site to me & others. And i was very glad it was there.

Those were back in W98SE days when i tried out just about FW etc etc test there was going. I was always pleased how, by optimising my pc & browser, IE6 for many years, it proved you could have a VERY safe & secure pc.

    Happy days !

Ichito, I don't know. I hope Mat is okay and enjoying life. I doubt that anyone here at Wilders knows, or else someone would have said.

i'm sure matousec's doing just fine, he probably eradicated his biased "highest bidder gets the top position" test results from the net because the 3rd party fw sw business fell from grace. like @guest said "matousec was more about HIPS than firewall"
