Most kids already have an online presence, but not all of them are happy about it

This is indeed extremely creepy. For some, it starts with ultrasound images of pregnant mom. Sometimes even a progresssion of pregnancy photos. Then the slew of baby pictures, first words, etc, etc. I can't imagine growing up with such an online presence. Opportunities for shaming and bullying. For commercial exploitation. It's insane.

As the mother of one 14-year-old girl wrote, to stop posting photos of her daughter “would mean shutting down a vital part of myself, which isn’t necessarily good for me or her.”

That's sad. If posting her teenager girl photos to social media is vital part then
that mom seriously needs a shrink.

Well it's not just kids, is it? There's a lot of consent problems which are of course more extreme regarding kids. And the other problem being in any case that the scummy behemoths are actively mining the pictures (face reco etc), and they also remove copyright information.

When you're a commercial photographer, you need release forms; and we need default legally enforceable release forms for private spaces and public ones too.

I really can't imagine that. Pwned by your own family.

I gotta say, however, that 8th grade is awfully late to be discovering that.

Maybe her parents were "protecting her". Except that they were pwning her too. Crazy.

Can you stop your parents sharing photos of you online?

I have a friend who's a pediatrician. Women don't just want ultrasound images. They want ultrasound videos. And they expect gender reveals. Sort of like prenatal porn ;)

Can you imagine discovering that your parents had posted such videos to Facebook or whatever?
