Major Android apps like Tinder, Grindr and Pregnancy+ are quietly transmitting sensitive user data to Facebook, according to a new report by the German mobile security initiative Mobilsicher. This information can include things like religious affiliation, dating profiles, and healthcare data. It's being purposefully collected by Facebook through the Software Developer Kit (SDK) that it provides to third-party app developers. And while Facebook doesn't hide this, you probably don't know about it.

Previous research has shown how 42.55 percent of free apps on the Google Play store could share data with Facebook, making Facebook the second most prevalent third-party tracker after Google’s parent company Alphabet. In this report, Privacy International illustrates what this data sharing looks like in practice, particularly for people who do not have a Facebook account.

Facebook routinely tracks users, non-users and logged-out users outside its platform through Facebook Business Tools. [...] Privacy International has analyzed the data that 34 apps on Android, each with an install base from 10 to 500 million, transmit to Facebook through the Facebook SDK.

You are tracked by Facebook even if you don't have FB account, unless you have taken steps to prevent it.

How to stop Facebook from tracking your location on Android even when you're not using the app

Facebook on Wednesday rolled out a new feature that lets users stop the Facebook app from tracking their location on Android phones.
If location tracking was enabled in the past, Facebook's Android app tracks you even when you're not using it.
This isn't needed on iOS where users can change iPhone settings from tracking them without having to open an app.

At least 11 popular apps are reportedly sharing people's sensitive data with Facebook, even if they don't have an account on the social network. The Wall Street Journal found that apps which can help track personal information such as body weight, menstrual cycles and pregnancy are sending such details to Facebook.

The apps that were found to share personal data include Flo Period & Ovulation Tracker, BetterMe: Weight Loss Workouts, Breethe, Realtor.com and Instant Heart Rate: HR Monitor.

The social network doesn't seem to be directly at fault here. It instructs developers not to share "health, financial information or other categories of sensitive information" with it.
Facebook said it will force the apps mentioned in the report to stop sharing sensitive data and take action against developers if they don't comply.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that information provided through an online consumer data privacy survey will help state regulators make policy decisions regarding the internet marketplace and how personal data is used by companies.

Cuomo says the survey is part of the state’s investigation into reports that Facebook secretly accesses personal information of its users.

New research from UK-based advocacy group Privacy International uncovered that some period-tracking apps were sharing sensitive data with Facebook.
