Maybe if Apple, Samsung and the others didn't charge $1000+ for their new phones, consumers would be willing to replace their phones more often.

I agree. Lower the price and I might buy my first smartphone. :thumb:

Yeah, but at the same time you don’t need to pay $1000 to have a good smartphone...I bought mine for less than $300 two years ago.:)

That's true but frankly, I think even $300 for a decent phone is inflated.

Agree with you. But I always keep my phone 5-6 years, so for $270 I find it acceptable...:)

I bought my Pixel XL for €370 and if not for the camera issues, it was a steal.

But paying 450+ for a phone? In their dreams!

About a month ago, I replaced my phone with a used Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X from eBay. It cost of about $85 US. It has good performance and battery life and does not look like a cheap phone. The only downside (other than the non removable battery), is that camera can't compete with the ones in more expensive phones. But that isn't an issue for me. I don't see the point in spending hundreds of dollars on a phone, when you can get very good performance from budget phones.

Going back 4+ years, budget phones were typically not that good, often having terrible cameras and battery life and a lack of updates. But in the last few years, things have changed dramatically.

    I bought this

Battery life is not too bad, and it's pretty malware-resistant, though one must not be careless. Very light, and doesn't take much space. Also, the manufacturer is never late with security updates. So far, have not had any issues, except that whenever I drop it, a hole opens up in the floor. All in all, 10/10 would buy again.

(and buy a real camera with the money saved, not ****** phone cameras, when compared to real cameras. Perhaps include a gps device too)

I think 300 bucks is a reasonable price, Sony also makes quite decent phones in this price range. People who are buying phones from Samsung and Apple for more than 600 bucks are quite insane if you ask me.
