And it seems they offer realtime protection also in the free version: https://www.taringa.net/posts/reviews/19808906/Reason-Core-Security-2-antimalware-con-escudo.html The pro version adds malware removal. Has anyone tried it? Is it good in detecting malware?
OK, I have installed it and tried to download a couple of malicious file: ***Virus Total results removed as per Wilders Policy It didn't detect them, neither real-time, nor on-demand
@roger_m Would you like to try the new Reason Core Security v. 2.3.0.3 ? http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Reason-Core-Security.shtml Since you have tried the v. 1, maybe you can check if they have improved it. Thanks EDIT: PCMag review https://www.pcmag.com/review/354440/reason-core-security
I just updated my old version of v2 to v2.3.0.3. CPU use is low during a scan, and never exceeded 27%. While it is possible to exclude detected items so they don't get detected in future scans, from the scan results window, you can only exclude detected files or registry keys, one at a time. There's no option to exclude every file or registry key belonging to a particular threat. At least with Malwarebytes, it gives you option to whitelist every item that you have no selected for removal. The new IOT of things scan is an interesting addition, but the advice on how to fix the issues is not helpful.
If you were using Vmware, ",Reason Core Security the last time i tested it" was having major issues connecting with the cloud in the VM, Andrew Newman was well aware of it, as i sent him a video demonstration, he was supposed to have fixed this like a year ago, although i have not heard back from him since this time, nor have i tested it since then. I may drop version 2.3.0.3 and check it out again.
@roger_m Thanks for your feedback Reading the PCMag review, it seems that Reason Core Security is more an anti-PUP rather than and anti-malware (and it's understandable because they bougth Unchecky). The good point is that it comes with realtime protection even in the FREE versione (the PRO version allows the user to remove the malware already installed on the PC). In my opinion, it's a great addon for people who install a lot of new SW every day. I would use it only for the realtime protection, without making any scan (beside the first scan after installation, which seems to be mandatory to avoid the warning in the main GUI)
Reason Core Security costs AUD70.06 for 1 year, 3 PC. In comparison, Bytefence Anti-Malware (a rebrand) costs AUD67.95 for a 3 year, 3 PC license.
Could be, but Andrew Newman, the Founder/CEO of Reason Core Security (incorporating now abandoned herdProtect, which he also developed) was the founder of GIANT AntiSpyware, which was acquired by MS in 2004 and formed the original basis of Windows Defender. Given these credentials, I'd be surprised that it was malware ...
Yeah, I did try it a while back, but it's not on any machines now. Didn't appear to do anything better than other softs I was using.
Are you referring to reason core security (anti-malware) or to the new reason security antivirus? https://www.reasoncoresecurity.com/?__c=1 https://www.reasonsecurity.com/compare
What exactly does "Secure Browsing" do? Is it a browser extension like Windows Defender Browser Protection or a VPN that encrypts your connection?
