I have Win Update Stop running on 3 systems from a few months, I tried now to click on "Enable" button and all worked fine.

After a reboot I was able to check for Windows Updates again, so that's strange.

What Win Update Stop does is just keep the Windows Update service disabled (via its service application).

What I have noticed, is that sometimes there may be the need to repeat this loop 2 or 3 times:

1) Open Windows Update app and check for updates
2) Then if you get an error, reboot the system

Before doing these steps you will need to open Win Update Stop and click "Enable" button (to make sure Windows Service is not stopped) or uninstall Win Update Stop.

What are the exact issues you're having? Such as you keep getting errors when you try to check for updates via the Windows Update app?

Is there the possibility somehow that other security apps are preventing Win Update Stop to modify Windows Update service?

What version of Windows 10 are you running? 1809?

In my case I can enable it but if I check an hour later or so it is disable again...it’s strange because on my other laptop it stays enable all the time. On both laptop I have the same security, KIS and OSArmor. Windows 10 1809 on both

Yeah, seems that is the route NVT's is going lately with a freeware to subscription when an update appears. I don't mind paying for a good software but with this one after a year will it cease to work if not renewed or will you simply not be able to get updates?

 

Per the FAQs:
The product will stop working and it will show the Activator GUI saying the license is expired. You need a valid (unexpired) license key to keep using the product.

I'm exploring alternatives (in lieu of the fact I've given NVT $$ already for ERP, OSArmor!)

 

I'm not so sure I'm willing to pay for such a tool, it's handy but too simple you know what I mean. I would probably pay for a tool like OSArmor.

 

Agreed. I paid for OS Armor but Win Update Stop 1.4 works just fine here and I see no reason to upgrade to 1.5 at this time. 9 bucks a year isn't much but like you said not really worth it for what it does. Maybe if it was lifetime I'd probably go ahead with it, if nothing else, just to support development.

 

I'd be interested in your opinion on what you find.

That will work if you just want to stop updates, but if one wants to get updates to WD at the same to, not. Then StopWinUpdates and Sledgehammer is 2 alternatives i know of. They update WD every 6h. NVT`s program, once an hour.
