How does it work without internet? I get no notification from my firewall. Does it use windows update channels or something?
Oh, this is so awesome! It finally gives me back control! Tasty, juicy control! MUAHAHAHAHA!! EDIT: Can I change the language? It is partly german because my system is partly german. But it does make less sense this way. EDIT EDIT: Yes... I just deleted the other languages in the "Translation.ini". But an option would be nice.
Is it actually possible to block windows update and use this program instead? I mean can I disable all the update services, disallow internet for most them and such?
It sounds like it still uses the usual windows services to check and download updates. But in my utopia they are all disabled.
Yes it does. But only when you run the script. The rest of the time, Windows never checks for updates.
Using WuMgr you can also disable the most prominent update facilitators on pro/home editions but the wrapper script is more thorough. I Intentionally did not want to mess to much with the windows installation. Without UsoSvc windows 10 does not longer auto search for updates. In older windows versions like 7 and XP wuauserv did it all, but in win 10 it seams wuauserv is only passive and waits to be tolled to do anything, and UsoSvc is what manages and coordinates the automatic updates. So imho you don't need to disable wuauserv anymore as long as UsoSvc and WaaSMedicSvc are dead you should be just fine, and free from unwanted updates or update searches. About telemetry that is done by a different service.
They're protected. I currently don't want to mess with that. But thank you! One should expect, but I don't really believe MS... I really wish I had the guts to just change to Qubes or something.
Well with WuMgr you can install updates without allowing your windows to talk to M$, you select the option offline update and the option manual installation. Than you can block wuauserv and bits in your firewall. WuMgr will download the update catalog from M$ offline search for updates and then "manually" download the update files from M$ and install them.
Unfortunately all services are combined into svchost and I need at least one service to have internet in order to have internet. (VPN) Thank you! I didn't know that! This makes your program even better! I'm going to kill these services right now! Do I need to download wsusscn2? (EDIT: YES) Can you tell me what "Register Microsoft Update" does? EDIT: Blocking the download of wsusscn2.cab and blocking Windows Error report (WerFault) has caused an unhandled exception and the program crashed. You might wan to look into that 0xe0434352 at 0x00007ffbd265a388 EDIT2: Does wumgr create any logs? Because the update installation failed without much information in event viewer
With teh default options wumgr wil automatically download the wsusscn2.cab for you. "Register Microsoft Update" adds an other upate provider which provides also office updates. I wil look into the download issue. Edit: I looked into the issue and when i block wumgr in the firewall i only get an error message but not an unhaldned exception, did you used the latest version 0.9a? wumgr logs stuff into the console you see on the bottom, but if an update instalation fails you dont get much info, currently. was is "manual" instalation or normal instalation?
been using WUMT for years across many PCs. very happy. I'll try WUMGR when I build new PC for gaming with win10. can you tell me does this tool work with LTSC and LTSC N? cheers. edit: also, does WUMGR has that option to mark unwanted updates in color thrue .ini?
Who said that WUMT was written in C/C++? It's actually written in Delphi. Specifically version 31.0 (24.0.25048.9432).

I have Win 10 Version 2004 Build 19041.450 installed according to winver. I used WUMgr to install about 20 updates. WUMgr showed them as installed successfully. However, Settings, Control Panel, Programs & Features, View Installed Updates doesn't show any of them. Is it correct that updates which WUMgr installs don't show in View Installed Updates, or is there something wrong on my PC?
Sledgehammer does not work correctly on W11 according to my experience, internal failure is a frequent message. Do you have any plans to update it in the near future?
If there are plans, it would be nice to resolve some of the simple open issues reported ages ago such as a log and GUI sizing etc.
