Linux: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will be supported for a full decade November 18, 2018 https://betanews.com/2018/11/18/ten-year-support-ubuntu-18-04-lts/
That's good news... I found 18.04 to be very well done and a good alternative to Win when you want one. Nice that they extend support for so long... Very good.
I'm not sure if that is quite correct. The ZDNet article says: This suggests that only paying customers will benefit from this extended support and normal desktop users will still have only 5 years support.
Good news, this is similar to the Microsoft approach. Having an official support path of 10 years for everyone would have been terrible news for progress, especially in regards to security. Take adoption of OpenSSL 1.1.1 which is required for TLS 1.3 for example. This was released after 18.04 and thus is not supported unless they decide to patch it in which seems unlikely. Having that supported for 10 years would be a disaster for moving the internet onto TLS 1.3
