So dual core is "high end" ? What does that make my 8 core 16 thread Ryzen? Extra-Superduper-High-End?
On my system both Kaspersky and Eset seem similar in system impact. This test shows quite a difference. I guess it all depends on specific system and how it's used. Encountering WD on many systems, it does seem to impact performance, specially with some operations (copying files, installing applications...).
I'll have to mostly agree with the above graph. ESET 12 is the fastest thing going and Microsoft is the slowest. People don't realize how slow it is because there is nothing in the Windows UI to tell you what it is making your PC slow. Watch it with Process Explorer for a bit. Things will become evident.
This, plus the fact that they probably didn't try something else so they think that's how their system's speed and snappiness is because they keep telling themselves it's light as they don't wanna pay for an Antivirus when all the test results show Windows Defender being the slowest in addition to our own experience here as well.
I have to second this. Kaspersky isn't bad but I just switched back to ESET for a couple of reasons, one of which is because it performs much better. I hadn't used it since version 10. I am impressed with how much better 12 is.
on the other hand, the performance difference compared to the level of protection isn't worth the switch to ESET tho.
Though I don't totally disagree, I don't want this to become a this vs. that discussion. I do feel either is good enough for my setup.
That's been my experience too. While Kaspersky is fairly light, ESET and a few of others including Panda, keep system impact to an absolute minimum.
i had the same good experience with eset and panda...very light. Another example is norton and bullguard. Kaspersky can be light with tweaks, but this option reduces the protection level
