As a newbie please bear with me.
If I make a post, and then return the next day, how do I find my post or posts I have, to see if there has been a response?

You can use Watch Thread option and then use Watched Threads to see them:

In alert preferences you can also enable alerts for replies in watched threads:

In the top right corner of web page next to Alerts, you will see a notification showing the number of the threads you are subscribed to that have new posts.

If you position your mouse pointer over Alerts, you will see links to any such threads.

These boxes are all checked in my settings - but, strangely, I haven't received email alerts in the past 2 weeks or so. I don't know what's wrong.

EDIT: I just noticed that the respective boxes in the the "Contact Details" were not checked. That's probably because I had changed my email address.

You could be right. Did that solve it?
