Yes, I don't want to be misunderstood, the OS itself is not exactly what one would call modular, but the sheer amount of software available makes up for it.
[EDIT]This is all debatable and I may be wrong here, but we better stop this vs thing or Ron'll get busy

I noticed all of my favorites on MSN Weather vanished.I am on 1803 with yesterdays patches installed.I use Open Shell and wonder if it caused this.Never seen this happen before. Not exactly a crisis just strange.

I have an imac and yes, I prefer OSX upgrade policy over windows 10's but I do not see it as real alternative.

For an old timer like me who only uses his desktop for surfing the Internet, and using Word and Excel, wouldn't Apple be a viable alternative?
    Thanks.

Hi Acadia. If you are in the process of buying a new system go for it.
It will take you 1-2 hours to get used to the OSX enviroment but afterwards it'll become very easy to operate.
I just would not advice someone, who is not looking to buy a new machine, to buy an imac only to get away from windows 10.

Thanks a ton, pandlouk. An iMac would just be a toy for me to play with, unless I really learn to like it. Switched to Win10 in March. Win10 is OK but tired of how Microsoft keeps trying to take over my system, I'm tired of fighting but at the same time don't want to surrender.

But thanks again for the advice, you've helped me much in the past with other stuff.

    You are welcome.:)
If you decide to buy one it will not be a toy anymore... Most of the people I know that have bought an imac or a mac mini end up with the mac being used as their primary system; mainly for 3 reasons (1) easier to maintain, (2) eyecandy, (3) more intuitive when you get used to it (with exception of the "drag 'n drop" of files between two folders).

ps. the only problem is that most of them also became die hard apple fanboys and made me regret it for introducing them to the OSX environment...

    LOL, yeah fanboys, yuck.

I know two people who use both Apple and Windows. They both tell me that if they were forced to use only one, they would both pick Apple. Anyway, thanks again, and now to disappear before Peter tells me that I am off topic.

Do you use OneDrive? You might have not have been affected by the bug.
    https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2018/10/09/updated-version-of-windows-10-october-2018-update-released-to-windows-insiders/

I think there were a few users here that didn't encountered the file deletion bug.
I wouldn't recommend to never update. Use application like WinUpdateStop, and update when you feel enough time to correct the bugs have passed.

Also the Geek didn't specify this correctly. It should be “Install the Latest Feature Update Now”

Or simply do as that given in the Win 10 Pro ver. and give the user an option to defer feature updates.

Bottom line big brother Microsoft, no one should be forced to install a Feature Update unless they choose to do so!

Also overlooked in the Geeks-To-Go article is auto Win 10 Updating doesn't work properly for many. So they are forced into manual update checking to determine if security or cumulative updates are available.

As it is reported that this affected less than 1% I expect most were not affected by this bug. I'm not defending it by any means but as I am in charge of PC maintenance for 2 companies my expectations have to be realistic as does the info I have to pass up to the boss. I assume they will re-release this within a week or and so and it will be business as usual. Until next time.

Well now. This explains an ordeal on this end on the Win 10 unit. Thanks for the mention on this.

Yes indeed thanks, it is a nice tool to have just in case, with an image of the system taken before updating, one can wait until the problem is fixed. I should also add that the last two major upgrades (April and now) have been flawless on my computers, and in the past, if a direct upgrade wouldn't work, a clean install was always successful (albeit a lot of work re-installing programs).

I've read there were a couple of other serious problems as well. I think it's better not to update.

When I installed 1809 clean, I ran into some weird Edge bug where if I opened a 2nd tab or did anything that opened another window on the desktop, I lost my internet connection to whatever was going on in the main original tab/window. I also ran into this same bug/issue when I tried doing an upgrade from 1803 to 1809, so there's something strange going on there, no idea what though. This was a few weeks ago, when 1809 was first released. Maybe they've fixed it by now with an update...
