I cannot confirm this, it is speculation on my part.

But Suddenly when viewing youtube I noticed adverts, and the new layout been forced upon me which was previously all been mitigated by various extensions and tempermonkey scripts.

I then started doing various diagnosis work and my conclusion is multiple extensions are now failing to function on youtube, but yet work fine on every other website.

    Examples.

ipvfoo now only shows the ip of the original url, it used to popup all the individual ip's for loading parts of the page, such as images and of course streaming the video.
ublock origin now only youtube and maybe googlesyndication domain as well, but all the other domains never appear, interesting as well is if you block all javascript including 1st party, the page still is fully functional and is clearly now bypassing ublock origin filtering.
tampermonkey reports no scripts loading, interestingly even when setting the active url's for scripts to *. If I set the script load procedure from normal -> instant, the scripts briefly load but then unload and have no affect either way.
http/2 and spdy indicator is no longer able to detect if http/2 is in use.
https everywhere is failing to detect domains in use.

As I said every single other website I use in the browser functions as normal with extensions.

The only mention of this I have managed to google on the net is discussion on some github pages by extension authors who noticed the same behaviour, and they concluded the youtube devs are doing some funky trick by manipulating the browser history and preventing a url been reported to extensions meaning extensions dont load.

    Any thoughts?

I have not yet tested on other browsers.

I believe I found the issue, if you enable the gpu raster sandbox process security feature, I think whats happening is if the tab has gpu accelerated content like a video, then the sandboxing prevents extensions from processing the content. I am not 100% on this yet, need more usage but since toggling it to disabled and restarting the browser things seem back to normal.

Looks like its not fixed it, its definitely a weird issue, extensions work then dont work on youtube. I will move my testing to alt browsers including chromium alternative like opera and vivaldi.

This video so far has always triggered the problem coming back if it goes away as I tested on several videos, went back to this video then extensions were disabled on all videos again.

This has always been this way ever since they introduced "apps".
Go to about:apps and delete the youtube app (or all of them).

If you right-click on the app, you should see a "Remove from Chrome..." option. FWIW, no issues here either.

Well after I removed the GPU process sandbox it noticeably improved but was still randomly kicking in, but after I Removed the app its been 100% back to normal. It is possible after I cleared the experimental flag it was just some cache lingering, but all I can say is after I removed the app its not happened after.

It has nothing to do with sandboxing, that's merely coincidence.

Apps are not touched by extensions. So if you go to youtube with the youtube app installed, it won't be filtered.

Oh, you're right. Why didn't I do that? xD

If you right click it and choose "app-info", you can set this on or off: "Unsandboxed plugin access". Maybe that is helpful for someone.
