A VM resides on a fast SSD. The guest's swap space is put on a separate vmware disk that is set as an independent-nonpersistent drive so its size goes back to zero at every shutdown, eliminating the need for compacting to save SSD space. This vmware disk is then placed on a separate HDD to reduce SSD wear. But when the guest writes to swap space, the snapshot (.redo file) is still generated and filled in the VM's folder on the SSD. How do you make this .redo file get generated on the HDD?
You should be able to locate this snapshot either manually by opening VMware and clicking Open and navigating to the snapshot, or try to manually find the file in the File Explorer and attempt to open it or Run As Vmware. I move my snapshots and vmdk files all the time.
I do not understand, clicking Open in VMware Workstation Pro on a linux host allows you to open VM's so it looks for *.vmx and *.vmtm files. Do you have another product that opens the snapshot of an independent disk (single redo file for this disk and no other snapshots are allowed)?
