To boldly go where few had gone before. Here's a short article announcing my purchase of Slimbook Pro2 laptop, with intention to use it for serious producitivity work running only Linux, covering usage and cost considerations, purchase experience, hardware specifications, operating system and software choice, open questions, and more. Let the journey begin. https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/slimbook-pro2-coming.html Cheers, Mrk
Well, they were quick with emails - and sent prompt updates on the state of the order - assembly, testing, shipping, etc. The website does not have to reflect on the quality of the product. There's lot of shiny garbage out there. Anyway, I bought it, so this will be a nice experiment. Mrk
Just a quickie. If this is to be the new "holy grail" why the urgency with delivery? You stated that "I did not upgrade the Wireless antenna from the default dual-band Intel 7265N, or add the SIM module. The main reason is - this would delay the assembly and delivery by two full weeks! The same also applies to the keyboard selection." And you followed up with "I am still not 100% sure that the Slimbook Pro2 will offer a seamless Linux experience. It is the wording on some of the specs that gives me a bit of a pause. Like the Wireless antenna." I hope it all works well as I, and probably most of the users here, look forward to your reviews . Hate to think that the new unit will alter any results. PS. Also, I always look forward to your vast range of desktops and music choices - that's why I really read all your reviews.
I actually think that the newer antenna actually offers less compatibility. But the proof will be in the pudding. There's no urgency but I also didn't want to turn this into a special operation. It will be interesting to see what happens. Mrk
"So I am now going to take my Linux experience to another level, and that means using a Linux machine for some really really serious stuff " Cool "I won't go into too many details, but I am thinking Kubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver " Go for it. When you become more experienced maybe you could use Arch, Antergos, Manjaro "for some really really serious stuff" Good luck with the Slimbook, looks nice
With all these Manjaro hype, can people easily install it on a modern machine with UEFI and secure boot enabled, in this day and age?
FastGame, I'm compiling Arch on Gentoo in a virtual machine inside ReactOS. How do you like them apples? Mrk
