There's another word for that devotion of which I also am a loyal member-it's called being thrifty.

When people I meet on the downtown city street in conversations make mention of the word cheap, I always will come back with a more helpful term to the affirmative-not cheap, but better priced!

Is there a way to reduce false positives with WDC Pro, for the registry module ? Did you try the Pro version or only the free ?

Wise Registry Cleaner has been very dangerous already about year. It may damage Your system even if You try to use exclude rules. It simply don't allow them and does what wants. Also it do not distinguish database files and cookie files and deletes all. There was even a case where it deleted all of your downloaded files, if they were not in folders. (Deleted all files in the "Downloads" folder), etc.
I told you it took about two months before they fixed the bug, but so far some of the database files are being deleted and you can not do anything.
I abandoned this malware about half a year ago, now I'm only testing new versions, see if something has changed. Unfortunately, not so far.
So, you have warned now and You should know Yourself what you are doing.
PS, You may use CCleaner 5.42 or 5.43 - there is no dangerous things.

I turn off computer with deep cleaning, no exclusions and not a single issue for years. People usually blame the wrong software, in this case, I would look at AV and such, like locking registry.
Like I removed all startup entries, which AV did not prevent deleting, but upon recreating them, AV blocked my script, so I ended up with an unbootable Windows, luckily I noticed it ASAP.

HDCleaner is missing in this list.
CleanMaster, not good for its Boost function. It slow down my computer. I regret to use this function.
Best are for me, WDC and HDCleaner, without the Registry Clean operation.

They don't know this one, i.e. Kerish Doctor! ;) I am using it on my XP Desktop, and now my Surface Book laptop. It has never deleted anything to cause a stuff up of either. :)

The registry cleaner is the same in free and paid versions, with the only exception to that being that the free version will only scan for errors in current user's registry. You would need to log in as another user to scan for issues in their registry, unless you are using the paid version.

You need to manually check the scan results, to see if it has detecting any needed registry keys. You can add these keys to its ignore list, but of course it is better to use a registry cleaner that you can won't think any valid registry keys are errors.

They are both excellent. I've tested a lot of cleaners and these are the best at the moment, in my opinion.

I know you are a prolific tester of these tools, so trust you on this.

Been using WDC without issues for some time, will give HDCleaner a shot.

Edit: Smartscreen blocked portable, and NVT ERP (v3 still) 'Invalid or revoked certificate'. But will check it out anyway (image first, analyse ...).

Are defaults OK? Won't use registry cleaner.

Btw anyone using Grary Utilities 5.103.0.125 be careful, there seems to be an error in the Shortcuts Fixer (for me anyway, looked suspicious and didn't proceed beyond the analysis).

They have followed up pretty quickly with a 126 version which seems to have fixed the issue.

There is always a risk with these tools, always best to have images.

That's why I keep a whole slew of reg files for almost every extension in windows since some of these in the past knocked out their connection. You likely encountered those times when the associations were removed.

The shortcuts fixer checks for invalid Start Menu shortcuts. It has got nothing to do with file extensions.

" You can add these keys to its ignore list". Which keys ?

I also have a look to VT Registry Fix as you recommended. Do you check 'ActiveX and Com', is it safe ?

You need to look at the scan results and if you see anything listed that is a valid registry key, you can add it to the ignore list.

The only thing you should disable in VIT Registry Fix, is deep scan. Everything else should be enabled.

A word of caution: My Macrium task schedules were wiped. I see 'Task Scheduler Job Files' is ticked under Windows tab, probably that.

    Image restored.

It is unchecked by default. I just run HDCleaner using the default settings.

Strange. It was checked here, portable version. Unless I did that inadvertantly.

I just uninstalled and then reinstalled HDCleaner, as for some reason just about everything was unchecked. I was wrong, it is checked by default. This shouldn't be the case, so I just emailed the developer about it.
