That's why I downloaded 5.3.1.0 and saved it. Just in case MB elects to make dramatic changes i.e. incorporate/suite it into whatever or I just don't like the direction it is headed towards. Do not desire an all-in-one security approach.

Thanks for being upfront and transparent at least. But I wish PR talk would just stop it already with that line they like to use "No personal data is collected". because it's pretty bullshit nowadays as well

5.4 works perfectly fine on my end.

Based on what alexandrud said, I'll go ahead and install 5.4.0.0 just to support this excellent program. That's less data than what the MB privacy policy implies, though I understand that this can change at any point with no warning. The policy is what it is.

I know telemetry can be useful and is not to be discarded on the spot, however some companies (especially A/V ones) are in the habit of recording pretty much everything on the users' PCs and activities (I don't know anything about MB's habits). Let's hope this whole thing turns out well for WFC, it's definitively worth it.

    Try mbcut.dll.back, mbcut32.dll.back, Newtonsoft.Json.dll.back, it′s work.

Thank you! That was the issue preventing 5.4.0.0 from manipulating the rule set; interestingly, this was never an issue for previous upgrades... so something changed this time around.

May I suggest that disabling the Secure Rules and Secure Profile be added as a step to the "housekeeping" process of the uninstaller? It is not ideal that the registry restrictions currently persist beyond an install of WFC.

I would also like to say WFC is a fantastic product, and I certainly don't regret buying my license.

I get this delay some times (certainly not always), but I've also seen it on the previous version (or versions). Not an issue for me.

Here's a request: an option to "always open rules/log windows maximised" (or just always remember its previous state but it seems there's an issue with multiple monitors).

    Um, does 5.3.1.0 re-install need re-activation?
Thinking, I'd install 5.4.0.0 just to see and then (maybe) re-install 5.3.1.0.

Yes, the activation page is still available for versions prior to 5.4.0.0.

Now that the previous "Secure Rules" is back, I hope you can consider bringing its HotKey back too. It's very handy for known applications that add/modify rules during install/update.

Why do people want to revert back to 5310 version what is wrong with 5400 version, running fine for me?

Because in my case 5.4.0.0 will not install, in other cases they might not like the telemetry data returned.

Maybe, Reverted: Secure Rules feature was reverted to the old implementation from version 5.0.2.0.
    Maybe, not Malwarebytes fan.

Unless it's some weird formatting of the forum, the service isn't _wfcs (at least on my computer) it's wfcs.

Anyway, removed 5.3.0.0 as per above, 5.4.0.0 still failed with the same error.

The service is installed, started, and running but when I execute wfc.exe for the GUI, it shows as: Can't connect to Windows Firewall Control service.

Tried restarting the service and the computer multiple times, no change.

    So:
Service is installed OK and is running.
Installer fails before adding WFC GUI to the run at logon.
When WFC GUI is run, it can't connect to the service.

Just as a matter of interest, where can 5.3.1.0 be downloaded from?

I thought I had it but it appears I've got 5.3.0.0.

  20. I had to look around the internet to find a copy. After 15 or so links which just downloaded 5.4.0.0, I eventually found the following link to 5.3.1.0. It's at the bottom of the page:

    .....link removed

  21. I'll be staying at 5.3.1.0 hereafter. It works perfectly and doesn't require tweaking by Malwarebytes.
I paid for my copy and use it exclusively. It's great. Thanks for your past work Alex.

There's an official link to download older versions:
    https://binisoft.org/download/old/5310/wfc5setup.exe

Compare hashes between files hopefully you didn't get a tampered infected file.

I don't understand why some users are so upset with this new version. I mean, when you visit a website, the website knows your IP address. When you login into your Facebook or Google account they know your habits, your searches, what you like, from where you log in, they even have your pictures, etc. Now, if WFC sends statistics data to see if WFC is installed on Windows 7 or Windows 10, some people freak out. This is unacceptable. Evil. I'm gonna uninstall it. :) But you still use Windows. How do you think Microsoft knows the market share of Windows 7, Windows 10, etc ? Exactly, the same way.

Malwarebytes bought this software. They made it free for everyone (which is great) and in return they want to see how many users are actually using this. Does it worth to still invest in this software or not ? I don't see anything wrong in it. As I already mentioned, this statistics data will decide the future of WFC.

I totally agree with you :thumb:

Is there any chance that WFC will stay free forever (like it happened to AdwCleaner) ?
