Privazer also has a registry cleaner. Not sure how safe it is though.

Privazer is pretty good too but not for everyday using due to its long analyse. PE is quick as CC.

If you insist on using a registry cleaner, the following are safe to use, as they won't delete needed registry keys.
    • Advanced SystemCare (if you're a Pro user, don't enable Deep Clean)
    • Auslogics Registry Cleaner (it's safe to enable all scan categories, except Missing Software)
    • AVG TuneUp/TuneUp Utilities
    • CleanMyPC Registry Cleaner/Registry Clean Expert
    • Kerish Doctor
    • VIT Registry Fix (disable deep scan)
Almost all other registry cleaners, have issues with false positives, which means they can cause problems.

I ditched CC for Privazer, but I might give PE a shot. Thanks!

I'm not a fan of registry cleaners, but I'll keep your suggestions in mind. Thank you, roger!

No flames but it's pretty brave to write "... (they) are safe to use ...". I would rather expect "according to your own experience". What if someone tries any of them as per your bold statement and will then end up with the screwed registry.

I complement your list but declare that it has been tested on my Win 10 machine for a couple of months without a single issue but I cannot guarantee it will be the case also for other users.
    • Privacy Eraser - all registry cleaning items enabled

I know you try / test a lot of software ... glad you have not found issues with KD - I do use it, including the registry cleaner, occasionally.

Edit: Agree, the last few posts should be moved .

I've used all of the listed programs on a number of computers and there were zero false positives that I could see, not even one. I believe they are safe to use, because I've actually checked the scan results manually, to check for false positives and found none.

Wise Registry Cleaner has very minor issues with false positives. For example, some video converters will use different output folders, for different tasks, e.g. converting a video or downloading a YouTube video and they will not create these folders until they are needed. So, the first time you download a YouTube video, it will create the folder for downloaded videos. When you install the video converter software, it will create registry keys which point to these folders (which don't yet exist). WRC will see these registry keys and if the folders haven't been created yet, will want to delete them. But the keys are there for a reason. It is possible to go WRC to ignore any keys you want to keep, so that keys like this don't get deleted. But a better alternative, is to use a safer registry cleaner.

On the plus side, I doubt you would ever experience any serious issues from using WRC/Wise Care 365 and the issues with false positives are only very minor.

JV16 also has minor issues with false positives. It shouldn't cause any significant problems, but once again, it's better to avoid deleting valid keys.

Oh dear friend, you have not just discovered what's wrong or what's not works.
PS If you really want to use the previous version, i.e. the so-called ccleaner544, then do not use version 5.44.6575 but use version 5.44.6577 - there are some errors fixed.

What ever works for you. I'm about to ditch CCleaner but for now I'm using .6575 because that is the version I found. Do you have a download link to .6577?

If not, my friend, consider counselling someone else.

    Cheers!

I use KD but cannot find a "registry cleaner." Please... where is it & what is it called?

Doing a Full Scan, check for registry errors as well as junk files.
The information on that page is misleading. It is actually safer to use than the registry cleaner in CCleaner, Glary Utilities and Wise Registry Cleaner/Wise Care 365.

While registry cleaners do often get classified as PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), it is certainly not fake and does not use intentional false positives.

Ah, so KD's registry cleaner is shy. Hidden. Obscure. Lurking in shadows. An unlisted number. Doesn't want to blow its own horn. (HOWEVER-- If someone fails to blow his/her own horn, then something nasty may use it for a funnel.) My advice to KD: Never look back... someone may be gaining on you.

@bellgamin It's not exactly hidden. The main feature of KD is its full scan. If you haven't run a scan for a while, it will recommend that you do so.

Me too. So long, good luck, and good bye, CCleaner. This last update caused me to pull it from both computers.
I am trying Privacy Eraser free right now (just purchased the pro version tonight for 50% off).
Between that and BleachBit, my needs are covered.

USA still the best. But barely.
I disliked cc years & years ago when it was borking pc's left & right. And most people were sticking their heads in the sand saying it was user error.

I just think a registry cleaner should call itself a registry cleaner. I run KD every couple of days... its registry hits are very meager compared with Ace Utilities, my favorite for going on 8 years -- never a bad result in all that time.
