In its own testing, the next generation of Gorilla Glass held up over 15 drops from a height of 1 meter on rough surfaces. That’s up to twice what Gorilla Glass 5, released two years ago, could manage.

You can expect to see Gorilla Glass 6 devices within the next several months, and it’ll eventually land on every major mobile device.

for dropping we have bumpers, now we will need screen protectors...

Still it's worth noting that gorilla glass is stepping up their screen resistance to better avoid the shatters.

I hope they also make their glasses thicker again. They thinned them recently or a year ago. I don't know specifics

The next Samsung smartphone to hit the market could have a flexible screen that's unbreakable, delivering the first truly foldable handset.

The Korean electronics giant said Wednesday that it's recently developed smartphone panel has been certified by Underwriters Laboratories, meaning it's ready for shipping to consumers in actual devices.

The flexible OLED panel is constructed of an unbreakable substrate with an overlay window adhered to it, Samsung said. Flexible displays currently commercially available tend to shatter when subjected to severe impact.

The display passed rigorous durability tests, Samsung said, including being dropped 26 times in a row from a height of nearly 4 feet and continued to normally, suffering no damage to its front, sides or edges.

"It's a significant breakthrough," he said. He continued: "Say goodbye to broken screens."

Solving the problem of fragile screens is an important advance. But not at a $1,300 price point.
