Uninstalled CCleaner due to lost trust. Alternatives?

Wise Cleaner and PrivaZer both provide whitelist capabilities that include cookies. Neither is quite as well implemented as CCleaner from a usability standpoint, but they do work. This feature (or the lack of it) is THE big differentiator in disk cleaners, so far as I am concerned. With most of them, cookie cleanup is an all or nothing proposition.

I like that the free version offers real-time monitoring. When you close the browser it automatically cleans it for you.

Hi Guys! Understand first that I was never ever employed by either PiriForm or Avast, and quite frankly don't really care if one uses CCleaner or not. That being said, why don't you guys trust CCleaner now?

1). The initial CCleaner infection was caused by someone (or something) liberating both the signing credentials as well as the FTP credentials (so malware posing as CCleaner could be uploaded) .
2). The actual malware FINAL payload was targeted to those working at certain companies and NOT the general public.
3). AFTER this breach Piriform was acquired by Avast, and during this time the signing credentials were changed as well as the ftp login thingies.
4). After this malware was made public ADDITIONAL security procedures were instituted.
5). CCleaner is now as secure (or insecure) as any other software one would download.

    So, like, what's the deal?

I used HDCleaner for a while. When I uninstalled it, it apparently took some stuff with it that caused a few programs to disappear from being launchable. Clicking their exe files had zero results-- they didn't launch. Could have been a situation unique to my computer. So... I'm just sharing my experience for whatever it's worth.

Fortunately I had a very recent registry backup. I crossed my fingers & restored it. That fixed whatever had happened. Lucky, wot?

For me that incident was just a beginning. Latest version of CCleaner phones home, and lately started to show ads during usage. Basically, you have to block it in FW to prevent both of it from happening. If you block it from connecting to net it would crash if you tried to use Recycle bin - right click - run CCleaner or shortcut with /AUTO switch. I use it that way 99% of the time so application became useless to me.
Unfortunately, after Avast bought them, free CCleaner became just another avenue for Avast to deliver ads with no significant improvement of application's main usage purpose. So looking for alternatives seems logical to me.

I also think the whole incident has been amplified ad nauseam, it is nothing but a storm in a teacup, with all due respect fellows...

A very valid reason for not using the product. But the inclusion of ads (by which Avast is attempting to offset the purchase price) should have absolutely NOTHING to do with trust or not trust. And CCleaner always connected back to the central server...

Been using HDCleaner since you posted this. Depending on your settings it does clean aggressively, but will create backups (nice)! So far, so good - works just as well with SSDs so they really have to change the name. ;)

    v1.134 is now available:
    - Improved Cookie cleaning
    - Added Waterfox Browser
    - Added cleaning for all user accounts
    - Added KMeleon Browser support
    - HDCleaner supports more than 3000 plugins
    - Added KMeleon Browser support
    - Improved Firefox, Edge and Chrome cleaning
    - Minor tweaks and improvements
    - Minor GUI improvements
    - Minor bug fixes

Thanks for the HDCleaner info & update, but I have a question... It seems it's necessary to separately clean Browsers, Windows, Apps (i.e., isn't there a way to launch a complete cleanup with just one-click)?

Yup saw that after the fact. Happened on another website I go to regularly. That said, not using Norton DNS anymore.

Anyone know of a CCleaner Alternative capable of cleaning portable browsers? I was able to with CCleaner and PrivaZer but have had no luck finding any others.

Even though they are separated into different tabs, tt cleans them all at once.

If you say so - that just wasn't apparent. It would be nice if there was a "1-Click Complete Ceanup" button somewhere (preferably on the Dashboard)! Otherwise I like HDCleaner's features and efficacy quite a bit. :thumb:

All you have to do, is go to the Cleaning tab and then click on Clean All and it will scan for and clean any junk files and privacy traces it finds.

Not in the older versions. One of the reasons I didn't update to version 5.X.

Dislike ccleaner because it has ads and phones home. And, because, avast has different plans for it

The dust-up with the security breach a while back isn't a big deal. That can happen to anyone's software.

Tried HD Cleaner, does not deleat all files in sandboxie.
Have it checked in the general page, and added to the enclude list. Still show SBIE has files left.
What else is it not cleaning? Kinda of bloat-ware, half the stuff I dont need.
    "Restored" system.

I just block it connecting to dns and it's home #.
I mostly clean when internet is off.

I switched to BleachBit 2.0 (with the winapp2.ini cleaner downloads) some 2 months ago. Since I've only been using it for a short time I've been methodical in creating a System Restore Point before each of my end-of-the-day cleanups. I like that BleachBit is simply an open-source drive cleaner without ads or unwanted features. So far it seams to be doing a good job 'cleaning up after me' and there have been no issues to prompt a System Restore!
