To any users of Avira free, how does Avira stack up nowadays? I see they have a free suite with lots on bells and whistles. But is it good protection? I'm thinking of switching a family member's pc from Avast to something else.

Avira takes too much system resources during update.
GUI is terrible, slow to load, not conssistent, traces of the past still in. Is it neccessary to have main "Avira" window and then separate one for Anitivrus? Protection is OK, to be honest. When not updating, Avira is light on resources. It would be keeper but really bad performance during update (optical drive, with SSD should be no problem) made me to switch to KAV Free, GUI is.....something we have to live with for now, I guess.

Thx, it's not perfect either.. New version 19 (for EU, GDPR ready) is step backwards. No more fine user tweaking of AV modules, you have to pay now for it.. settings are unlocked just in pro version. Liked AVG but future of that programme is uncertain after AVAST bought them.

Any Avira Free for Mac users around? How do you like it? False positives an issue? Should I use High sensitivity or the default Medium as in Windows? If I install it on the Admin Account will it show up on a Standard user account?

I always liked the look of the OS and had my last Windows machine configured to look something like a Mac desktop. My windows machine was on it's last legs anyway ( bought it in 2010) so I decided to get the real thing. Besides work colleagues who had Macs have never has software issues or needed to fix anything. They say it just works period.

It maybe not the same then. That may be why they have the pro tested at av comparatives.

It's been happening for a couple of days, that is the Avira icon on the tray appears normally on boot and then suddenly disappears after a while... anybody experiencing this behaviour?

Thanks Anon, it is normal now, maybe it was the launcher updating itself. If it happens again I will follow your suggestion...

meh, wanted to edit but ended up deleting.

Rolling something out today that we've been working on for almost a year.

Let's see who finds the change first :)

Update is on staged rollout, so not everyone will receive it at once.
