Well, I guess that people are generally clueless and lazy. Also too busy just surviving to sweat the details
For me its like I live in two worlds. REAL NAME: I try to maintain a decent level of security and privacy, but remember that all the places I conduct business with know who I am. I take obvious precautions like VPN, Linux, Bitwarden, U2F, etc..... but I don't try to hide from "the man" because I am fully known, which means in reality I am exposed. It should bother me more but seriously its too much work to avoid things like where I am when I carry a phone, etc.... You can think you turn all those features off but back "at the ranch" in the carrier's network they do still know (even on analog phones). If some others here took a look inside SS7 you would throw your phone in a lake. Its just how it is. My other world is where I do try hard to remain anonymous. I conduct tons of reading for what most would do on their smartphones, but I don't want others knowing what I am learning about. Hell, if I check the weather in a city why does anyone to know that I searched that? They don't. I suppose that if I didn't have the "OUT" of these monikers I would care much more about my REAL NAME surfing. I simply avoid things in that scenario and wait until I dawn a moniker to learn/read/check out what it is that I seek.
Does anyone really think this is new? We made it this far OK. In the ‘old days’ everyone was in the phone book, on the publicly available electoral roll and a property search will show what houses you own and probably live in. If you have a driver’s license and a car the police have some sort of record; if you are known to them a bit more information. They need this to contact you in case of emergency such as the death of a relative. Financial institutions have access to a common credit check, as well your actual bank, with all your details. Who are these ‘they’ that are after you now? Only those that want you to click on an advertisement on a web page. Fearing someone knows where you are because you checked the weather is no way to live.
Only if you had taken credit. And I can request removal all of that information after I pay off the credit. At least in my country.
It is possible that they are the users of various fitness apps. As for them, I'm sure that they would like some kind of legal oversight, not to uninstall their apps - and I can't say that I blame them.
