Hi, my curiosity was getting the better of me, so I had to post and ask this....(It's about Avast! Home Edition) Iz it a fact, that after getting Avast HE, you have to re-register, or re-new some sort of subscription for it every so often, to 'keep it alive'<(so to speak) or is it, of totally unlimited use, right from execution....I heard that it haz to be re-newed every year or so :doubt:

Please get back to me, if u have an' answer, i'd appreciate it!!!..cheers

    regards,
    LJM

Yes, it is true that you have to initially register (minor Info is aked for) and then every 14 months you need to re register. It is a small price to pay to get a very good free AV.

avast! Home Edition needs to be registered for FREE.
This way Alwil keeps track on how many users they have. You only have to enter your correct email in order to obtain serial number. All other info can be anything you want. You can also enter correct info if you want (i did for example). This tracking also helps them to estimate the load on their servers so they are always fast as they can be :)

When you register you get the serial which is valid for 14 months (yes, more than one year) and can be entered in avast! even if you re-install it (as long as serial is still valid).
After this period of 14 months you need to re-register for FREE again.
After re-registration you're again good for another 14 months, etc
Thats the policy of Alwil and i think its fair enough :)
I assume that 10 seconds of work for 14 free months isn't too much for such a fine peace of software :)

If I remember correctly you'll get an email message some time before your version expires. That's also a reason why you've to register.
It didn't give me headaches and the process took about 30 seconds. Afterwards the message was send with the registration key to update. :)
They also want you to register to know the bandwidth they'll have to reserve for their customers. Something I read on their forum, but I can't find the topic. :doubt:

I'm not sure if you get an email when your subscription expires. I believe a window is supposed to popup letting you know when your sub has expired.

You can see when it's going to expire anytime you want by right-clicking on avast's icon in the system tray (by the clock), choosing About avast!... and then expanding the section that says Registration Key.
