I'm still worried about all of this Telemetry crap, in Win 8 you can disable most of it without any problems, same goes for Win Updates. I hope this will stay the same in Win 10.

To be perfectly honest, I am not worried. You yourself can disable a lot.

My advice, if you don't trust Microsoft, dont use Windows. I wouldn't if I felt restless about MS, I would rather switch to another system than mess up the system and fight it.

I tend to think that if you wait for a while it will eventually find updates on its own...

Hi Mary, this are the type of updates that you have to click Check for updates to get them via Settings>Windows updates. Otherwise you wont get them when they first come out as they wont be offered automatically. Most of the updates at the end of the month for W10 work like that. But so you know, if you don't install this update that come out at the end of the month when they first come out because you didn't click to check, you ll get them the following month automatically on patch Tuesday as part of the Cumulative update. Personally, I rather get them at the end of the month so the next update is smaller, takes less time and have better chances of being successful.

Oddly, my ThinkPad Yoga is resistant to finding updates even with a manual check o_O, so I (impatiently) download from MS Catalog.

Edit: Spoke too soon. WU picked it up on reboot.

I don't like it when apps and the OS are constantly phoning home. I will probably use one of the anti-spying tools.

Didn't know you could actually block system processes.

Avast update fixes Windows 10 version 1803 upgrade issue
Some Avast antivirus users reported a blank desktop with no icons or interface elements issue or a "boot to choose your keyboard layout" screen when they ran the upgrade from earlier versions of Windows 10 to the latest version Windows 10 version 1803 that Microsoft released on April 30, 2018.

I thought they may have pushed 1803 out today to the machine I had trouble with before but not so far. I won't be manually checking for updates for a while on that machine either. ;)

I had 1803 installed and working fine here, but then the last win update from a few days ago hosed it. I get to the login screen and log in, and then nothing but the dreaded blank screen. So that's it for me, tried to restore an image and update again, but same problem. And I can't go back to 1709 because they're forcing 1803 on 1709 users already, tried that too. Looks like I'm done with 10 for now. Going back to 7 here. It's pretty ridiculous when you can't rely on the OS to even keep working from one update to another...

How long did you wait when you saw the blank screen?
