"Tesla confirms autopilot involved in Utah crash but seeks to blame driver [that took hands off the wheel]...

Tesla officials told police on Wednesday that the driver, who suffered a broken ankle when her Tesla Model S crashed, had turned on the “autosteer” and “cruise control” features about 80 seconds before the crash and taken her hands off the wheel, Tesla officials told police on Wednesday...

'Drivers are repeatedly advised Autopilot features do not make Tesla vehicle ‘autonomous’ and that the driver absolutely must remain vigilant with their eyes on the road, hands on the wheel and they must be prepared to take any and all action necessary to avoid hazards on the road,” the company wrote.'..."

"Man found dead after Tesla crashes into Castro Valley pond

A 34-year-old man died over the weekend after his Tesla plunged into a pond in Castro Valley, authorities said.

The incident occurred either Saturday or Sunday at Crow Canyon Road when a man driving a Tesla Model S veered off the roadway, broke through a fence and drove into a pond, said Daniel Jacowitz, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol...

...authorities are still trying to determine what mode or capacity the Tesla was in prior to the crash,..."

They best just leave cruise control handle such matters and cease remote control experiments of ground vehicles.

And here I thought as a young boy that the 21st Century would already been utilizing The Jetson's airborne vehicles.

Woe was that ever a pipe dream imagination.

"Trust in Self-Driving Cars Has Plummeted in the Last 6 Months...

...A whopping 73 percent of Americans don’t trust autonomous vehicles, up from 63 percent in late 2017.

The new study, conducted by AAA in early April, found that just 20 percent of Americans said that they’d trust riding in a driverless vehicle. The largest decline in trust came from Millennials, with 64 percent saying that they wouldn’t ride in one, compared to 49 percent in late 2017 who distrusted the technology...

The study even shows that people aren’t just afraid to passengers in driverless vehicles, they’re also scared to see them on the road when they’re walking or riding a bicycle. A staggering 63 percent of Americans say that they’d feel less safe with autonomous vehicles on the road when they’re a pedestrian..."

There's too much hype around this topic. As long as there's a mixed environment (another 15-20 years at least), there will be issues. But for some odd reason, people expect autonomous vehicles to be flawless. The technology is still young - comparable to commercial flights circa 1930s.

    "The driverless threat...

It used to be that the biggest risk was your physical car keys being stolen. But with technology progressing fast, your digital keys are likely to be even more sought after by criminals...

The big question is, if that connection is compromised, what could an attacker do? Inevitably, the threat will become greater as technology advances, and when driverless cars hit the road in 2021. This will take the capabilities of our connected cars to a whole new level and the biggest danger is that a vehicle will be taken over...

Of course, full control of the vehicle is not the only motivation for cybercriminals. We may also see attempts to track the journeys of high profile targets. Attackers could silently collect travel data, while also using advanced social engineering techniques, to build a comprehensive picture of the person’s habits and whereabouts. This could potentially lead to a new type of online blackmail..."
