Hi, I have an old PC and I want to use newer drivers because nvidia304 do not work for archlinux. My motherboard is an Gigabyte GA-M68M-S2P and I want to install a video card to use newer drivers, do you know some alternatives that work fine in this one? Thanks for advance
I don't understand what you mean by that. What drivers? You can update your motherboard drivers regardless what card you install in there - as long as the most recent drivers are for your current version of your operating system. And as long as your motherboard has the correct interface (slot) and your power supply can support the load, you can install just about any graphics card you want - again as long as there are graphics drivers for your operating system. I say "just about" any card because are just physically too big to fit in some cases.
Thanks Bill Bright and Pandlouk, if I can buy any video card I will try to buy one that goes fine with the power suppy in the pc.
@zorro zorrito You are welcome. By the way what is your current nvidia gpu? Have you tried installing the nouveau driver instead of using the nvidia one? https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/
Hi all, I wanted to say video card not sound card Bill Bright. Pandlouk mi GPU GeForce 7025/nForce 630a. Yes I have tried the nouveau driver and nvidia-340, nvidia-390 but the pc crashes. Archlinux does not have anymore the nvidia-304 driver in its repository anymore, that happened this year. That's why I think the best thing to do is to buy a video card to replace the drivers my pc uses now.
