I disable FastStartup no matter what software I have on the machine :)
But I would definitely disable it for SD

Although I haven't installed the latest version as I use a version that I'm comfortable with on my Xp sp3 ( I still happily use version 1.4.0.519), I do not like the gui change of the tray icon. To me it looks very cartoonish, old fashioned and tacky. I can't imagine why Tony would introduce it at this stage.
Shadow Defender is very 'utilitarian' and (in my opinion) visual gimmick has no place in it.
Were there any other gui changes?
I have not been able to reach Tony for quite some time as my emails remain unanswered. I don't know if this is a 'Great Firewall' issue but communication has never been steady and consistant. It may be that I offer constructive criticism when I deem it necessary. The last number of members issues that I have tried to raise have gone unaddressed as far as I know.
It's good to see that Shadow Defender is still being developed; it's become a large part of my online life and I use it every day.
I suppose that I am quite conservative in my view on utilitarian software, design, structure and function. I hate 'gimmick'.

In addition to the icon and this, there are no other changes in the GUI:

    Normal changes, I like.

Thanks aldist. I don't like either of those changes. As I said above, maybe that's just me and my tastes.
It was my suggestion, many years ago that Shadow Defender should say 'safer'; It originally said 'safe'.

I like the GUI changes, but they could be a bit more modern looking like the new shield looks a bit old school otherwise I'm fine with it

I've run my 'on pc' offline anti virus Avast Pro and Malwarebytes AM over the file and it comes up clean. Every now and again when installing Shadow Defender it will be detected as having a virus. I think that it is a false positive. I think that this happens because the software runs at a kernel level, it is seen as unusual at times by anti virus in particular circumstances. that's my hunch anyway. These alarms have happened going way back through various versions and don't seem to have a consistancy 'across the board'.

Can new version be installed on top of old one or old one must first be uninstalled?

On top. Save before this res.ini, if you use a program language other than English. Settings and activation status will be saved automatically.

I just installed SD build 680 over build 672 (which was running great). Now I can't get SD (.680) to open and run! Thinking my downloaded file could be corrupted, I again downloaded and installed build 680, but to no avail. There's no indication whatsoever that my other security apps are causing this...

PS. I just reinstalled 672 over 680 and (as before) it runs perfectly, so I don't understand what the problem could be with 680! o_O

Cruise I have build 680 running on Win 10 after upgrading from 672.

If I remember right I clicked on the 'upgrade is available' link within GUI.

Have you tried removing other security apps one by one as a test?

EDIT.... Just remembered there is a bug in the anti-ransomware component of Malwarebytes at the moment which is blocking many apps from being updated. If this could apply to you just turn off that component, update SD, and then turn component back on.

On my Windows 10 x64 there's no problem with installing 680 over the top of 672.

Is 680 some sort of better improvement? I normally keep the older versions unless there is really some new feature that can prove useful.

Or is it for compatibility with Windows 10 updates.

    Thanks

There are no new features in 680:
I think, if there were no problems in 672, it is possible to stay on it, since it contains compatibility update with the new version of Windows 10:
I always store 2-3 versions of the program for unforeseen events.

Thanks for the update @sdmod but I don't have any issue with SD v1.4.0.672 on my Windows 10x64 latest build so I don't need to update at this moment

My quote of the day: 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it, specially if you don't trust the new SD version' :argh:
