Scot’s Newsletter http://www.scotsnewsletter.com/33.htm Why I Use Security Space "...Although installation SPF 5.0 Pro appeared to go just fine on my benchmark testing PC, and the product operated perfectly as far as I could tell, it was not protecting me properly. The problem was apparently caused by a previous firewall installation on the same PC."
Must say I've never heard of this guy before. I guess he made an honest effort at reviewing SPF 5.0. I'm surprised he was not already aware that leftovers from ZA absolutely need to be removed before installing another firewall. I will agree that SPF is a good firewall and perhaps the best choice for some. I had my wife using it for a while until I had time to install Outpost on her machine and showed her how to set it up at work. By the way, welcome to the board. And thanks for posting this. My reply is in no way meant to criticise, just the ramblings of an old man. Hope you enjoy and stick around.
Thanks, root. I was focusing on Finnie's appreciation of Security Space as the only one of several testing sites that caught this major problem with a firewall.
Oops. Didn't mean to sound curt. Actually I'm bouncing in my chair here with frustration. I installed a new software firewall recently and tested it using at least six different testing sites. Despite all that, it seems that I might be trying to hold off hackers with a sieve. With a wet Kleenex.
Yes, it can be a real challenge to get products to work as they are advertised, especially given all the differences from one PC to the next. If you think it would help, maybe you should start a new thread regarding the situation with your firewall and its possible problems. It may also help others who easily could be experiencing the same problems, given the products currently available, and the issues point out above. Just a thought. Welcome and Best Wishes, LowWaterMark
Yes please let us know what you are having problems with and we can try to help. Also, I understand your point about Security Space. I'll have to look at that site again. I have using the same version of my firewall for some time now, and havent been doing much scanning. Let us know if we can help.

Thanks Guys and Gals. You know there are so many sites and magazines, including ezines, around you could spend your whole life just reading articles from one, then the next, and then the next and so on. I used to frequent a couple and subscribed to the Langa List, and a few others, but just could'nt keep up. So, there's a couple of sites, I frequent, Which Paul wont let me post here, , but I try to keep up with whats important. I also like to have some fun on the net, so I'm kinda minimising my serious browsing. Truth be known, theres enough security news just floating around this forum from you good people, that it keeps my head spinning. And then theres the deer and turkeys in my back yard I need to start feeding. Winters coming on and food is going to be scarce for the critters this winter. There's just never enough time.
