    With this little tool Windows Updates can be disabled with a simple GUI. Supported are all OS versions from XP up to Windows 10.

    @novirusthanks

    This program of yours is quite similar to Windows Update Blocker, however yours lacks of a "Protect Service Settings" option to prevent anything from re-enabling wuauserv again.

    Could you add that feature please?

    To clarify, I'm not using Win 10, but I read somewhere that M$ removed the option to disable automatic updates.

    But does it stop W.update from getting turned on like Sordums program do?
    Windows has a nasty habbit of doing that.

    Thanks for this tool.
    In my Win 7, I don't do windows update for many years - only when I need an update that is requested for some software or special reason.

    Hah, you are as bad as me how i approach with Windows 8.1.

    I might pull them in and see if any are truly really relevant (for performance!) but security is always rock solid without.

    However this tool looks to might become handy for my 10 units. That O/S is preferred to set my own pace on updates and the like. Cool share and glad to see this.

    This will stop ALL updates, right? What is best to stop major upgrades, like 1803? I tried Microsoft's own Windows hide utility, O&O Shutup10 and setting my network connection to "Metered" last time, all without success. 1709 was still forced on my machine.

    Yeah, it should be able to stop all OS updates. If you check for updates while this utility is blocking them you will get an error code. That's normal.

    Also it will block updates for the Microsoft Store apps.

    Thanks. I was hoping just to stop major upgrades for one machine, but so far I haven't needed to.

    Since I've installed it months ago no updates of any kind. It's doing the job perfect.

    We've released a new version:

    Win Update Stop v1.4

    The portable version has been removed because now it installs a Windows service to permanently disable Windows updates on Windows 10 OS. The service uses just 1 to 3 MB of memory and is used to auto-disable Windows updates (if they get re-enabled) in the background. Important is that you do not uninstall Win Update Stop after you click the "Disable" button, but you keep it installed in the system, if you want to make sure Windows updates are always disabled.
