Weatherbug & Hotbar ...

Our CEO loves this little program. Thus, he has recommended to everyone that they download and install it across our organization of 150 Employees and about 80 computers. I'm the IT guy for this company.

Another one is HotBar -- many folks love the CUTE (uggh!) little furry creatures that ths provides in their email dialogue.

Are there any resources on the net or elsewhere I can use to lobby against the installation of either or both of these programs?

Do either truly invite or directly relate to spyware or malware?

Weatherbug used to be one of the worst. However, they've totally cleaned up their act. They now have only 2 products:

1) A ad-supported product with all ads binded to the program. You see them only when using Weatherbug inside the interface - like Opera.

2) A pro version with no advertising.

They have entered into agreements with MSNBC and other networks to promote and support their program and, I think, realized they have a good enough program to no longer have to go the adware/spyware route. It's actually a quite good piece of software now. They get technical trying to say they never were spyware/adware before, but then admit the popups, etc. are gone as of V.6.......

i know they used to be one of the worst-and hard to uninstall too-liked to never got it uninstalled-this has been quite awhile back,glad to hear their good software now

I was looking through weatherbugs website and it dawned on me that they offer a yearly subscriptions for you to get weather that you can get for free by watching the news. I use a weather monitor because I'm always in my home office working and I barely see outside. Anyway. Back to the thing at hand. Weatherbug does come bundled with Mysearch and a toolbar for IE. I can't stand the fact that you have to pay 20 bucks a year for the program. I can't stand the facts they they use ads also. There are free programs that don't use ads.
