Tried MX Linux once more, wasn't disappointed. Here's a short, enthusiastic review of MX Linux MX-17 Horizon with the Xfce desktop, tested in an eight-boot Windows & Linux setup on a laptop with UEFI/GPT, Intel graphics and Realtek network card, covering a brief overview of installation and a deeper focus on day-to-day use, including network, media and smartphone support, applications, hardware compatibility, blazing performance and responsiveness, stability, ergonomics, and more. Enjoy. https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/mx-17-lenovo.html Cheers, Mrk
I can confirm this distro is really excellent. XFCE is somehow limited whencompared to Plasma but still it delivers without problems and hassles. Having read your review of 18.04 (which also failed me -kubuntu flavor- even to install due to an user setup error during installation), what about using MX as your next LTS?
Hi mrk, Thanks for the article. I like the font you use in the article, it's almost perfect. What is it, do you mind if I am asking?
I am also running and pleased with MX-17 on one of my 4 Linux machines! I agree; compared to Plasma (KDE) it is a bit limited but still a great and useful distro. My other three distros of choice these days: Mint Mate, Mint KDE, and KUbuntu.
i have an acer aspire 6930 that had 32bit Vista 3gig on it. a friend gave it to me because it was running so poorly. i put mx-17 on it and it brought this old buggy back to life.this was over seven months ago and it's still running great. got 63 updates today. i love mx-17
This is just what a lot of users don't appreciate because they are either unaware of how fast Linux runs or too lazy to find out. One of my testing machines is an ancient Samsung RV415 that has even lower specs than your Acer. It currently has BunsenLabs on and performance is light years better than the Windows 7 it came with.
This release has intrigued me to try Linux again. Installed MX-18 and so far it's awesome I've installed it on separate partitions next to my Win 10 Pro installation.
I've been falling behind. Got to find the energy to test drive this & probably multi-boot install it. I just di it too. Also I got to install a Pie ROM on my Nexus 6. And get the replacement battery [already ordered] for my hotspot & replace the swollen one.
Tried MX 18. Sound was not good when played using bluetooth speaker. I don't have this issue in arch and ubuntu in the same laptop.
This seems to always be the case with any Linux distro; there are some features and functions that break or don't work well for most users. Surprisingly, my Realtek wireless worked flawlessly from the get-go with MX-18. With MX-16 it was hopelessly broken, so I'm happy they fixed it.
