Yeah alexandrud, you can easily just make a checkbox, take like 5 minutes lol.

    He already explained this.

So the implementation of secure rules in 5.3.0.0 is why WFC is somehow borking UWP apps? I was testing WFC 5.3 in the insider and fast skip builds and somehow I can't install any UWP apps, and borks system stuff made with UWP framework such as the start menu, action center, etc. After I uninstalled WFC 5.3, the apps and the system run fine again.

And that is why I do not use this program.

Yes it was the reason. People with some knowledge/skills or following this thread may found out why, others won't.

I also did uncheck Secure Rules, Secure Boot, and Secure Profile, then rebooted. I was still unable to install/update UWP apps. Next, I created a new local administrator account. From that new local admin account, I couldn't access the start menu, action center, the system clock on the corner, or anything else built from UWP stuff. I uninstalled WFC, rebooted, and things were working again.

Again, tested this in the current fast ring and the skip builds, fresh install, with VMware tools, C++ redist, and WFC only.

I have tried the new secure rules on a Windows 10 PC and it broke all sorts of things including the start menu. Turning off secure rules fixed it but I immediately had loads of enabled firewall rules rules I don't want and now have to delete them.

Please can we have the old secure rules back.

Removing rules you do not need, is there a problem for you?
Always create backup copies of your rules, and you can always easily recover them.
    No problem, use v5.0.2.0
Illiterate use of software does not exempt from liability.

Not an option. Are users going to be stuck with this version forever?
In a short time it'll become obsolete and old.

аlexandrud has explained many times, and this is in the help - turn off "Secure Rules" before ... An option is available for this. If this is uncomfortable or difficult, use v5.0.2.0.

It seems, that many users still doubt the insidiousness of Windows 10, and that with every new rule, created arbitrarily, without the user's participation, a lot of personal data is merged in the form of telemetry.

You don't get the point, by turning off Secure Rule, you will allow tempering of WinFW rules by any 3rd party... which defeat the purpose of Secure Rules...

As if you say " hey if your soft doesn't start, turn off you AV for a moment" !

    Come on...

Version 5.x.x.x won't receive any new update. So, you can use either version 5.0.2.0, either version 5.3.0.0. The main difference between these two versions is the way Secure Rules work. After all, it is a matter of personal taste. Version 5.3.0.0 is the last v.5.x.x.x release.

I need a clarification. Are these problems/issues being discussed only causing problems for Win 10 users? I have Win 7 - 64. thanks

Do you seriously believe it's a "5-minute job" to just "add a checkbox"? Give the developer a break. It is clear that "Secure Rules" has been rewritten and changed significantly after 5.0.2.0, it's not just "a checkbox". Read the release notes.

Both 5.0.2.0 and 5.3.0.0 are extremely recent releases (2018!) and working perfectly fine for all scenarios. Just relax, use the one you prefer and this can be discussed again when the next version is ready, be it in two weeks, eight months or whatever.

There's software written many years ago that works perfectly even today, don't get paranoid about version numbers.

I have a program called "Connectify" on my laptop which turns my Laptop into a Wi-Fi hotspot, letting my smartphone use the laptop's wifi connection to access to the internet.

I have to set the (WFC 5.3) filtering to "No Filtering" to have the internet access at my smart phone from my laptop's wifi hotspot.
The "medium filtering" at laptop prevents my smart phone to access to the wifi hotspot (at laptop).

How and what kind of rule I should create so that laptop's wifi hotspot picked up by my smartphone please.

PS: I have had no problem of using the laptop's wifi hotspot at my smartphone when I had your earlier version 5.0.1 or something.
    I now have WFC 5.3 / windows 10

Responding to the complaints I see here regarding the Secure Rules option, I wonder if people would be satisfied with the following options change:

    _ Enable Secure Rules
_ _ Allow MS-Signed programs to change FW settings

    _ Disable Secure Rule

Since people who use Windows already have a fair amount of trust in MS, this proposal seems to reduce frustration without having 3rd party programs a free hand in modifying FW rules.

Caveat: I don't know if checking for MS-Signed programs is complicated or not, and I apologize for not spending more than a few minutes going through the forum postings, so it is quite possible that I don't know what I'm talking about..

You do understand that this is a user-selectable option, namely for users who would want all their WIN10 subsystems and MS updates to work - without trying to approve them one-by-one?

Backup of all WFC Rules with .cmd. Before backup or restore, disable Secure Rules.
