Mark Zuckerberg is “actually not sure we shouldn’t be regulated”

But he didn’t mention things like GDPR in Europe, which radically changes the nature
of how companies can use and store personal data.

Facebook, its users, xyz govt and its politicians/bureaucrats, advertisers and other data gatherers knew nothing about the negatives of the platform? Mozilla and Musk didn’t know? I’m shocked! Thank goodness the lot of them will be considered the primary stakeholders in future discussions to be had for setting regulation on existing and future social networks. All those victims who knew nuthin about nuthin will make sure they'll be no coloring outside their mandatory lines—innovative, free thinking individuals need not apply. :isay:

Maybe it wasn't that they didn't know the negatives. But simply that for them the postives outweighs the negatives.

I wonder how such practice will be handled by authorities in EU after GDPR is enforced. I doubt that this can be considered as informed consent from users. Users allowed an app to access their contact list to quickly find profiles of their friends. I doubt there is any mention of collecting all metadata at the same time.

Maybe, maybe not, who knows. Reality is, someone has to pay for FB to generate all these ever growing revenue and profits. Since FB users are not charged any actual money to use it, and that no one else is giving money to FB, then FB has to get money from its users in some way. You cann't expect privacy and still use FB for free.

Of course, privacy is not free. Still in this case IDK how logging all call and SMS metadata is increasing their revenue. I guess that after May 25 we'll see how such actions are treated by governments. If it will be forbidden (I surely hope so) companies will just have to get money from somewhere else.

    1. The members of Wilders Security forum have known and DISCUSSED about privacy issues while using the Internet for YEARS, Decades!
    NOTHING NEW about it.
    2. I don't have ANY Facebook account, Twitter account, Instagram, etc...
How that "dangerous "Cambridge Analytica" influenced me to vote for Trump?
(Or maybe some Russian special forces pushed those buttons for me in the voting booth?)

    3. How that "dangerous "Cambridge Analytica" helped H.Clinton to silence B. Sanders?

    In short.
We MUST talk about PRIVACY issues!
Wilders Security Forum is NOT a place to promote some Political BS rumors.

I knew they were doing that for a long time. Messenger apps and contact backup and sync are trojan horses. They dont invest all that time and effort creating and updating those apps for free.
They just don't tell you the payment they will be expecting, and will be taking from you is all your friends, families and associates, personal information.
I noticed on my Android phone, connection monitor app, the system app, contact sync was connection established.
I do not even have a google account.

This whole thing is amazing in that data collection of Facebook users by 3rd parties is being presented as New Knowledge. Like Zynga (the 'free" Farmville game, etc) wasn't harvesting FarceBook user data for years...

This is all such nonsense and absolutely NO surprises here. Unbelievable that every ones in such a tizz hollering and crying about silly FB to begin with. Some of us have been aware about it for years ( no special brainpower needed) - and speaking out about it but it keeps falling on deaf ears and now you've got this (unsurprising) mess. And when you get a world gone mad addicted to finding out about themselves (the me generation) and some scavenger exploiting that fact, then this is what you end up with.

In 2018, Bogost wrote an article for " The Atlantic " discussing the collection of data by Facebook
apps, with reference to Cow Clicker.

Ian Bogost, a Georgia Tech communications professor who built a tongue-in-cheek game called
    "Cow Clicker" in 2010 said,

"Want To Freak Yourself Out? Here Is All The Personal Data That Facebook/Google Collect..."

[Twitter user Dylan Curran pointed out in a comprehensive twitter thread examining his own data cache, the extent and bulk of the data collected and sorted by both companies is staggering.

Google, Curran said, collected 5.5 gigabytes of data on him - equivalent to some 3 million Microsoft Word documents. Facebook, meanwhile, collected only 600 megabytes - equivalent to roughly 400,000 documents.

Another shocking revelation made by Curran: Even after deleting data like search history and revoking permissions for Google and Facebook applications, Curran still found a comprehensive log of his documents and other files stored on Google drive, his search history, chat logs and other sensitive data about his movements that he had expressly deleted.]
