Thanks. One more thing, how about adding Directx9? Even with DX12, DX9 runtimes are required virtually by everything, drivers, games, multimedia, even some software.

Me too, it could still auto-install from cache. I have just found out, that the auto-update process is a little flawed. It removes original exe and then tries to download the new one and when it fails, I end up with 0KB exe. I have "no internet", so it fails (like HitmanPro), but the funny thing is, that it is able to update all apps except itself, so I have to update PatchMyPC manually. :D

Good to know! We may look at adding the ability to scan based on the last definition file used when the network isn't available. We used to not offer a caching feature to store downloaded content. Now that this is available, it definitely makes more sense to enable an offline mode.

    What's new in 4.0.1.0 19-Mar-2018
    • Video Guide
    • Improvements:
      • Application Checkbox Context Menu
        • The “Disable auto updating of this app” has been renamed to “Disable scanning for this app”. We will now completely skip scanning of the application when this is enabled. Previously, this setting would just not auto check the application if it was outdated and it would still be listed in the right textbox and the checkbox would be colored if installed.
        • Added a new context item to “Disable silent installation for this app“. This will allow more granular control compared to the global option to disable silent install for all applications that is currently available in the options menu.
        • Added a new context menu item “Disable auto updating for this app“. This setting will make it so Patch My PC Updater does’t auto check any outdated application on startup. The application will still be listed in the right textbox and the color for the installed status will show for the checkbox.
      • Application Grouping Hamburger Menu
        • Add a new item “Un-Check All Apps“
        • Added a new item “Check All Apps“. This setting is only visible when download only mode is enabled.
        • Application groups will now be colored based on the compliance for all apps within the group. This is be similar to the application grouping headers in the application list and how they are color coded by compliance. This will allow you to easily jump to outdated application groups from the context menu.

It is in Multimedia. Mega Pack, it is a bit overkill, but it is suitable for all.

Is this tool really that helpful? Far as I know, all the software I use will automatically check for updates. I mean, some people still download disk defragger software because they don't realize Windows does this in the background automatically and has done so for many years.

Well if that's the case for you, then you probably will have no use for it. In my case, I have a lot of software that either doesn't auto update or they may be some delay after releasing an update, before the software's updater find the update. Also the amount of software this can update is somewhat limited due to the fact it downloads and installs the updates, rather than just providing a link to the software's download page.
Some people prefer to use a third party defragger.

It depends on your scenario and preference. I know we have a ton of IT Pro's that like using Patch My PC for base install builds for new PC's then enable the scheduler to keep things updated going forward. We have a caching feature and ability to auto install apps using a configuration file that they use more info on that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ae0ij3HD_4

Patch My PC, thanks for your soft - however two threads on this forum are too much to follow - could you kindly fold them into one?

This is the official support thread, the other one is more for discussion, so this one would be easier to follow, with less offtopic.

Agreed! What's nice about this article is it will remind people it's important keeping third-party apps up-to-date regardless of whether they use one of our apps or the self-update feature of the application! Coming from being an engineer @ Microsoft, I would say that by far most malware infections I've seen are from outdated third-party applications compared to Windows not being patched.

Side Topic: Have you disabled the auto launching of SUMo after a silent installation yet (/VERYSILENT)? SUMo is 1 of about 10 apps we are tracking that will auto open after a silent installation. We try to keep things as clean as possible and not open any websites or apps after silent installs/updates. You can create a skipifsilent condition in your JRSoftware installer: http://www.jrsoftware.org/ishelp/index.php?topic=runsection

Patch My PC is wrongly stating that Mailbird 2.5.4 needs an update after updating it. It still reports an update is needed even after system restart.
