Given Kaspersky's consistent threat protection performance (the latest test being no exception), I decided to uninstall Malwarebytes Premium and install Kaspersky Free. Quite happy they now have a free version as I have no interest in the paid version's extras.

@The Seeker, actually Kaspersky paid is tested, not free. AFAIK only Avast gives its freemium for tests.

you're missing out on the biggest features, System Watcher and Application Control. they test the full internet security suite, Kaspersky Free is only signatures + KSN(their cloud)

I decided to give Kaspersky a try and see if I encounter any problems.

I have installed Kaspersky Free, which is a free antivirus.

Yes I am aware of this.

Impressive. And that sums it up perfectly for me in a nutshell.

@dja2k- Can you share your particular brand of RAMDisk and offer any links pointing to how best to set one up. Thanks

    Thanks!

There might be newer ones but I always use this one
    http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk#freeware

And youtube video on how to setup
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcrjpog0g3k

The rest is is making your your folders for SBIE, browser profiles, windows environmental variables, etc point to your Ramdisk. Takes a little time to setup right.

Decided to remove Kaspersky Free and return to Windows Defender, due to its latest outing at AV Comparatives. Plus, I like the idea of having the Network Realtime Inspection Service running.

Kasperksy had 100% detection and zero false positives.

So you switched to WD, because it did very well in the test?

Not only that. There was the aforementioned Network Realtime Inspection Service to consider, as well as the reduced impact on my machine.

That stopped working on my machines. At least their test site was no longer blocked.

I cant find it now, but in old times i have search about it.
Network Realtime Inspection works after boot and scan the machine if your network is valnuable in known exploits. If it isnt it stops work in the target machine. If the machine has a known security hole it keeps working and protect from this hole until you patch the target machine.
