A PSI alternative is under way from VulnDetect. https://vulndetect.com/topic/2/welcome-to-vulndetect-the-alternative-to-the-secunia-psi-which-will-die-on-20th-april-2018
I recommend SUMo - been using it for several years. Very good and properly maintained. Give it a try!
Yes, I agree, I use it also. Though it's not the same as PSI, as it doesn't show which software contains vulnerabilities and how dangerous they are.
As long as he continue to bundle the installations with crap like this i refuse to use any KC softwares product, including SUMo.
They don't come bundled with anything these days. That is an old post at MT. I just scanned the current installer for SUMo at VirusTotal and nothing detects it. I can't post a link, as links to VT are not permitted here.
The dev used to provide a lean build on his site too once. Don't know if that is still the case as I haven't bothered to check. I did try it briefly a while ago and hardly any of my programs were detected, and the ones that were have auto-updates enabled anyway.
Thats not for SUMo though it's for VideoInspector. and quite frankly i don't care if it's old or not or if the current installer has it, I don't trust his products. period! Same goes with any company that uses tactics like this to sneak in PUPs adwares etc
It's the same with all of the software. Kyle only provides the Lite installers with no extras and the zip files for the portable versions now. He only provides the "Lite" installers now. https://www.kcsoftwares.com/?download
Zip file is still available, but it's not really portable. You can download a portable version from PortableApps.com
I did mention the zip files, but did not know that they are not portable. I always avoid portable apps when there are versions with an installer available.
The zip doesn't have an installer. To me, portable should leave a zero footprint on your system which is not the case with the zipped version.
So today the Secunia PSI closed down completely. But for those interested, VulnDetect is about to offer an early beta of their PSI 2 alternative, and they are looking for "10 tech savvy volunteers" to try it out. https://vulndetect.com/topic/6/vulndetect-status/
I'm just now seeing this but I'm surprised it took this long. It hadn't been any good since version 2.
@xxJackxx I could not agree more. I have not been recommending PSI, nor using it myself, since version 2. That’s why I’m so exited about VulnDetects mission to bring back PSI version 2. I have high expectations for this project.
VulnDetect has now launched an early tech preview of their PSI 2 alternative. https://vulndetect.com/topic/14/tech-preview
